Oil In Injectors?
 

Ok so I'm new to the whole rotary engine concept. I bought my '86 GXL with the understanding that it didn't run and the guy I bought it off of said the garage he took it to said there was oil in the injectors.

As far as I know based on other engine you can't get oil in the injectors w/o someone putting oil in the gas tank because the fuel system doesn't connect with the oiling system.

I've also read that these cars are premix or something along the lines of premix. WTF? is that about?

stock RX-7 use an oil injection system to lubricate the rotor housings. 4 injectors put small amounts of engine oil (from the pan) into the housings.

some people eliminate this system and use a premix system instead. it replaces the injection system with premixed (2 stroke oil and gasoline) fuel that lubricates the housings as fuel is pulled in.

so there is nothing to worry about with a little oil in the injectors?

Well, if he thought the injectors were dirty, you can have them sent out for sonic cleaning and rebuilding.

Yep, Rx7's have 2 injection systems that go into the intake, one for oil (the Oil Metering Pump) and the Fuel injectors. If I were you, I would see if your RX7 is flooded out. Just pull the fuel injection fuse from under the hood near the battery, Turn the motor over for 30 or so seconds( try not to burn out the starter) and plug it back in and try to start the car. It should work if its flooded. good luck!! :wallbash:

The oil injectors are located on the block. They should have 4 plastic lines runing to them.

The stock fuel injection system has 2 injectors on the block (middle area) and 2 on the UIM.

Does it start? If so, it's not flooded.

If it smells heavily of gas when you start it, check the pulsation dampener (and the fuel system in general) for leaks. After that, it could be that you're running rich.


SIDE TIP: BUY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. It's something every car should have and will save you ALOT of trouble in a shitty situation.

Two are on the block in the "upper middle-left" on the rotor housing. The remaining two are in the lower intake.

I got the car running. It was flooded. Changing the oil today and gona drive it around.
