Oil Filter Adapter With Autometer Oil Pressure and Temp Guages
I am looking to install Autometer Digital Oil pressure and temperature gauges and need a way to install the senders. I want to keep the stock pressure gauge so I decided that an oil sandwich plate would be the easiest.
Autometer pressure sender is 1/8 NTP Autometer oil temperature is 1/8 NTP and has a 3/8 NTP adapter My choices for adapters are Racing Beat and GlowShift There is a 50$ difference and people do not seem to have problems with the GlowShift part. Racing Beat has 1/8 NPT and 3/8 NPT taps GlowShift has 3 of 1/8 NPT taps My question is has anybody ran a similar setup? Are there any issues with clearance on the FC? Any down sides to this setup? I have a Royal Purple oil filter but I might have to switch to the Mazda one. If possible pictures would be appreciated |
I had one of the older style round adapters (apparently, Mazdatrix is not selling them anymore) with both autometer gauges that you are referring to. Worked like a charm, without any clearence issues.

I would buy the $74 RB unit, supporting the people who support us by still making parts rather than some chink ebay company
but thats just me |
There's a few guys in the 3rd gen section that use them. They seem happy with them. People seem to have a problem with the brand, not the actual product.

I completly agree with you, but I wouldn't have to use an adapter, and can put the 50$ towards gauges
i understand $50 is good money, so I guess the decision is yours |

Blox sandwich plates also work, $30-35.
probably same manufacturer as the glowshift ones, since it looks the same. |

I just got one for my water temp gauge to put on my top radiator hose after I cut it in two pieces.
38mm (1.5") iirc, it was $20.00 shipped Attachment 497229 |
Take a look at Racing Beat, they have an Oil Pres/Oil Temp adapter block for $74. RX7 1986-1992: Oil System: Oil Presssure /Temperature Sensor Adapter -

That is the one I just installed. I used the so-called Honda grey RTV to hold the O-ring in place in the receiver groove. You will need a 1" deep well socket to install the nut. I was not yet ready to install the gauges so I installed plugs in the adapter for now. I run an oversized Wix / NAPA Gold oil filter. Now that the filter sets even higher, I had to use some slit convoluted conduit to protect the line that runs over the top of the oil filter - not shown in the photo.
|
Ouch! RTV? Best of luck to you should the o-ring fails.
FYI on Racing Beat's install instructions: Coat the O-ring with a medium-body grease and position the O-ring in the recess in the underside of the adapter. (This will allow the O-ring to remain in the recess during the final installation process.) All possible fittings should already be installed in the adapter. |

buy the cheapo one and an RB, stack them on each other that way you can say you saved $50 and also bought a name brand part at the same time!
reading comprehension isn't some people's strong suit, this i know for a fact(my forehead still hurts and wonder why i bothered coming back). |

Why have two pressure gauges?
Looks like the glowshift one will work |
There is another option:
Mazda RX-2 : Oil Pedestal (Version 2) They used to have an option with additional sender ports (for oil temp, etc.) as well as an NPT port for oil supply to a turbo when converting an N/A engine. I personally would not use GlowShift products, as they're know for being crap in the Diesel world. Additionally, the GlowShift product screws on to your existing oil filter mount, whereas the Re-Speed or Racing Beat units REPLACE your oil filter mount. This will reduce the number of places for there to be a leak, as well as allow more clearance if you have a tall oil filter. |

the old RB block adapter didnt go on top, wonder why they dont sell that one anymore?

Your brand of informative tough love was missed. And sorely needed in some recent threads...
while the Blox/glo-shift pedestal is likely some cheap chinese brand it should still do just fine. i also used the one i installed to feed oil to the turbo on an n/a 6 port conversion. you don't need a huge port for oil supply so the standard 1/8" NPT works fine. i've used RB and the cheapos and i couldn't honestly tell you either felt superior in my hand or looking at them on the car. i used the Blox because it was locally available, when RB can ship me items in less than a day i might consider the value to be worthwhile on some products. oil filter pedestals aren't in my range of "you need name brand", unless the cheap versions were pure crap. this is the FC section still? right? FC owners are cheap. people should keep that in mind. spending twice as much for parts just means you ate half that plus shipping costs for nothing when it comes time to sell or part out the car. the only benefit you get is when people look at your parts and notice that they are name brand, and only a very small percentage of people actually care about recognition. over time less and less people are giving owners crap about using chinese, because we are still in a recession even though used car prices are on the rise. |

If the stocker is functioning OK, why add another gauge then?
