Oil Cooler Line Recommendations
 

My oil cooler lines are getting old and probably need replacing. Any recommendations?

Take the old lines to a hydraulic shop and let them make replacements. Should cost $60-$75.

I personally did not like the OEM bongo style nor aftermarket ones that used forged 90 degree fittings. I felt that there was too much potential for pressure drops and slight flow restrictions across those style fittings. I made my own lines using swept style fittings. Because I have a/c I has to make mounting bracket extensions to drop the oil cooler down about 1" or so to make room for the taller swept fitting. No clearance issues on the engine side of the lines with the swept fittings. I also used push-on style lines and fittings rather than mess with the braided stainless steel lines. Even though I took a lot of flack about these, they are still fine after 5 driving seasons and no leaks even with the Racing Beat 80-85 PSI street oil pressure regulator and front spring shim kit. As always YMMV.

I’d definitely recommend converting to AN. You can run the lines however way you want, etc.

OEM will last you a long time. They're not too expensive either. However, aluminum AN fittings are boss and they look great. I wouldn't cheap out though.

Can the stock lines be purchased from Mazda? I think mine will need to be replaced soon if I stay with the 13b for a couple years.

i have no knowledge of AN fittings etc so any help would be appreciated.

Not that expensive? I swear when mine blew a few years ago to replace them both would’ve been over $300

AN lines look amazing for sure, or you could just get the set from Racing Beat and come out almost even and you don't have to worry whether they'll work or not.

I love the protective coating on the ends of those hoses, that's an awesome idea! Must be a rubber heat wrap style material or something?

Id like to keep my AC lines where they are unless its just to move them out of the way @banzai



and has anyone had any luck with Vibrant fittings ? the all black ones ? seems my local shop only carriers Vibrant

I move the oil cooler down about an inch with extensions from aluminum angle stock for the mounting brackets - see post #3 above

So I just wanted to post here because I used this thread to make my choice and get some info about the lines. I went with the banzai lines for $200 high quality, comes with everything you need. Since I was just doing a quick repair to get my car back on the road as it is my daily right now, everything is filthy from the oil spraying everywhere. Only thing I had to do is remove the retainer clips for the trans lines that go to the radiator, other than that wasn't to bad at all. Overall satisfaction with banzai. And I had no issues with ac lines because they were deleted 😁
