oil cooler

My rx7 has a leak in the oil cooler. I was wondering if it's worth going aftermarket (Are there even aftermarket oil coolers for the tii?) or going with the OEM oil cooler w/ SS lines.

I did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Most consider the stock cooler to be very good, it's even used by other car guys on their different makes, so stock is probably the way to go.

I have an brand new aftermarket one for sale, really cheap. It's oem style and has 2 more rows than stock. You would need to make some brackets and new lines (stainless steel time) with an fittings.

Stock one is amazing!

I did a FD oil cooler conversion, only because I was experiencing high oil temps after a FMIC. Been thinking about going back to OEM, since I got tired of the temp issues associated with FMIC.

I've heard that the S4 oil cooler is better than the s5...Also, in DSport Mag they had a guy switch from the FD cooler to the S4 cooler because "it is better" ahahha i will try to find the mag it came from and post it up here so you have proof :-P

Panda, you should think about when, how and where the leak started. If it is at the oil line connection point and showed up after you installed the lines, then either the crush washer wasnt new or you over-tightened the banjo bolt and split the cooler.

I wish I could tell you that I was the one who installed the oil cooler. I just recently purchased the car and I'm in the process of taking the entire engine out to rebuild. I saw an obvious oil cooler leak.

crush washer? im pretty sure my oil cooler lines or line.. not really sure, is leaking? where can i find some crush washers? any help is much appreciated thanks!

Well do you see oil leaking from the lines? If the lines have ruptured a crush washer does no good, but to answer your question: any hydraulic hose shop will have many sizes of crush washers. They're just rings of Aluminum or Copper after all. Use them on either side of each banjo bolt to seal properly and replace them each time you remove the bolt. (at least it's a good idea too.)

oil is leaking where oil lines connect to omp and oil pan pretty sure lines are trash and oil cooler needs washed out, probably would be better to just replace the lines with some aftermarket lines. ive read the manufactured ones are expensive and its just better to go with some braided steel ones, any input would be nice. oh and sorry im not trying to hijack this thread just thought we were on the same topic. thanks

I would go the stock cooler. I had the same problem with my oil cooler leaking where the thermostat sits. Bad crush washer i'd say...but turned out I had a fine crack along the threaded bung. I simply got a used one in good condition (thank god) and hooked it up with no issues. And yes I have SS braided lines on mine...they come in handy and they look cooler!

Just because it leaks does not mean its BAD. Could be Leaking from the Crush washer hookups. Nothing wrong with the stock Oil coolers. they keep the oil cool and work great when the Lower airdamn is on the underpart of the car. Mine leaked for a while. I baught new crush washers worked fine since.

Wow lucky you, you got your hands on a crush washer. Me i wasnt so lucky. It was a mission trying to find that washer in my hood. No luck and I thought you can use any random washer with the same diameter but NO. So gave up and bought me new oil cooler. Frankly mine did not have the lower air dam :(

its not leaking where the lines connect to the oil cooler, not really anyways, what i meen is the lines are old and im sure they need to be replaced i can watch oil drip out of one of the lines where it returns to the engine. probably new crush washers on both and new ss braided hoses. ive read around and corksport sounds like the better choice, and not to bad of a price, compared to some of the other ones ive looked at..... but yeah any suggestions on where i should look thanks

You need a crush washer. Steel doesn't crush very easily.
