Oil Change

Hey I gotta have my first oil change but I wondered if it would be ok to let a shop do it.
I would try to do it myself, but my dad says I should just let a shop do it since it's only $15.

Anything to say to the mechanic when I bring him the car? No synthetics right?

Thanks.

hi

U would like 20 W 50 Oil! if it's not freakin cold out. Gives better oil pressure. Other then that let him fly at it. No biggy, get an extra litre. Because rotaries like to have a little more oil then other cars :)

yah, sometimes im too busy to change the oil myself just i just bring it to the dealer and have them change the oil for 20 bucks. Most oil change places wont use syn anyway.

I like your little picture under your name! Funny thing is we have that game where i work! Dance dance Revolution, that thing kicks ass 2 12's with neon lights. Hell yea

DCmina 03-29-02 01:31 PM

Ok thanks but is that ok to use 10W30 afterward cause I have an oil leak and have to add like 1/2 a quart each week.

DCmina 03-29-02 01:34 PM

Thanks, I love DDR too. :)

Anyway, should I go to the dealer or just a normal garage?

go_speed_go 03-29-02 01:42 PM

Anyone should be able to change your oil.
Make sure that you at least go with a recognizable brand of oil and filter. The quality of some places' "house brand" isn't always the greatest.

DC350 03-29-02 02:42 PM

yeah, get a good name brand oil. Not Presidents Choice. Penzoil, or Castrol GTX stick with the good stuff, actually somewhere i heard it's good to stay with 1 kind of oil. If you switch around alot it kinda messes up your engine, because of the different chemical compounds. Or some shit....

DCmina 03-29-02 04:34 PM

 This sucks! They used 5W30 oil! They were the brand Motocraft.

Oh well next time I'll try to do it myself.

copandengr 03-31-02 01:56 AM

Get the 5W-30 oil out of your engine immediately. This oil is not thick enough for the rex. Go back with Castrol 20W-50.

mr_vaughn 03-31-02 02:09 AM

I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 15W-50
Add so far after 6 changes in 8months no problems

DCmina 03-31-02 02:25 AM

So do you think I should get another oil change? Can I use 10W30 Chevron Supreme? I've got like 15 bottles.

If I go to the Mazda dealer and bring oil and the receipt, do you guys think they'll do it for free?

Oil is oil - don't worry about it.&nbsp Just enjoy the car... :)

CASTROL GTX 10w-30 winter 20w-50 summer. Add some MMO, follow directions on bottle gas and oil. change depends on how hard you drive if you red line a lot every 2500 mi , regular driving every 3000mi . DON'T use STP or any type of oil thickening products, or oil stop leak it will eat up your seals and make it leak worse later, it is only a temporary fix. Welcome to a special group of driving fanatics!!! PEACE. ex...

A SIMPLE SOLUTION

Just read the underside of your hood and see what it says to use in the engine. If you look it will tell you to use 10w-40 in the winter and 20w-50 when the weather gets warmer.

It's easy.

PraxRX7 03-31-02 02:11 PM

DDR lol

That game (DDR) rules for excercize. and when I can beat almost everyone there it is so fun|!!! lol

dre_2ooo 03-31-02 02:18 PM

What's the coldest that you can use 20W-50? It gets to like 45-50 in the day then down to 20 at nights right now.. but in a month or two it'll be in the 80s-90s+. I gotta change it soon.... dunno wheter to get the 10W or the 20W

Snrub 03-31-02 02:30 PM

I think 20W50 is good down to -10C. That would be like 10-15F (I think). I sware my engine was running a bit rough, when I first started it up, on a couple days when it was unexpectedly -5C. Maybe my imagination.

DCmina 03-31-02 02:50 PM

since I've got an oil leak (probably the o rings) I gotta add more oil. is it ok to add 20W50 oil in there since it has 5W30?
