Official RX-8 parts on FC motors thread

Sorry if this title is not appropriate, I figure we can make a thread of RX-8 parts that improve the FC engine's and either sticky it, or archive it for the people who ask about RX-8 parts on FC engines.

Now, being I have no clue which parts fit, post away with your knowledges and links to sites that have write up's on the stuff. I've seen several sites with writeups on using the RX-8's front cover gasket (metal i think) on the FC motor with some slight modification.

the RX8 shift knob fits in S5's

i read a while ago about using the renesis rotating assemlbly on the regular 13bs because theyre balanced to like 11 grand or something ridiculous like that... it sounded cool to me even though i'm not sure how you'd get your car to make power in that high of rpms anyway...

I would assume a massive port.

The RX-8 rotors aren't balenced from the factory....they use a new precition casting method so I've been told.

The rotors are also lighter and have a higher compression I beleive 10:1 ratio. When using them they are slant cut and you have to use the front renises rotor in the rear of the 13B engine and the rear renises rotor in the front of the 13B engine. Mazdatrix sent me info on this a while back.

To bad you dont make any noticable gains

the.white.fc3s 04-24-06 12:48 AM

well, all I can say that RX8 is a failure of the rotary family.

NO significant features on both interior and exterior... so far the engine is weak and I would give 10 out of 10 that Apex Seals and fuel injectors are improved.

Hmmm RX8 Shift knob... I should try that on my S5.

Weak. It makes like 235HP na. That is not weak, its accually pretty damn good. And interior and exterior is in your opinion.

Agent_D 04-24-06 01:15 AM

235hp for auto, 248hp manual i think

fcdrifter13 04-24-06 01:16 AM

well still that 100hp increase over the S4 and S5 NAs

idsigloo 04-24-06 01:22 AM

I heard they reflashed the ecu's on the RX-8's and now they only make like around 215hp or so. But let's say that this is complete bullshit, 235hp to the fly is great for a NA rotary stock, but the only thing that bothers me is the massive amount of hp loss through the drivetrain (20% or so). You're only getting like 180 hp to the wheels and lets not forget how much the car weighs. Plus it makes all its power at redline. I've had the opportunity to ream on a RX-8 and I was not impressed at all. I also found it difficult to see the road around me.

obviously youve never gone canyon running in an rx8! i put on a rotary meet every month, and well get maybe 10-15 rx8s.... all of us fc drivers park our cars and hitch rides w/ the rx8 owners.... they are a blast in the corners! no fd or fc ive ever been in can keep up w/ em.... my friends has sway bars, shocks, springs, and good tires, and that thing just plain scares the hell out of me! dont need hp going through tight canyons... and thats what they were made for... not 1/4 mile times

ill admit, i was very unimpressed w/ it when we were cruising on the street.... "30k for a mildly fast car... id rather be in an evo" .... but when we were in the canyons...whew

Smokems 04-24-06 03:34 AM

Heard they have great handling....but thats only what i heard =P

Carzy Driver 04-24-06 04:05 AM

where does one find rx8 parts, mainly engine internals? I've looked on ebay, rotaryx, and craigslist only to find a set of mirrors on ebay....

classicauto 04-24-06 08:34 AM

Mazda dealer.

IMHO, the biggest reason to use some of these parts (stat. gears will work I have heard) is because now that the Renesis is in production, the cost of parts for it is greatly reduced in comparison the stock 18+year old stock that we send them hunting for on our cars.

Good example as I mentioned is the stat gears.....rear gear is under 100 bucks cdn. and Im sure there are other interchangeable bits that will prove to be far cheaper then real FC engine stuff.

You've never been in an FC or FD with someone who knows how to drive, then.

Agent_D 04-24-06 10:17 AM

^agreed

Pat McGroin 04-24-06 10:24 AM

I wouldnt mind putting in some RX-8 seats into my FC. But Im thinking MOMO buckets might be a cheaper route anyway.

Whizbang 04-24-06 10:29 AM

i love the seats...

to mention about the whole rx8 thing. its targeted at midaged group who want a sporty car, with function. and it does that well. personally, i will probably buy one once i graduate college. Rememeber, its a completely different car than the Rx7. Look at the older RX's. they are all different in their own right. i think the Rx5 is badass, but its not the most performing or handling car. If a new Rx7 replacement ever does come out they sure as hell arent going to have a turbo motor. or at least as a standard option. The 3rd gen is the reason they dont sell them in the states anymore. Maybe something simple like the TII where.

Agreed.

Although the RX-8 has some electronic features to help with stability and handling thats the 7's don't, it's suspension is still stock and somewhat soft (it isn't a sports car...).

With the proper handling upgrades, I don't see how a 7 couldn't out-perform an 8.

You need to watch Best Motoring vids entitled Rotary Rocket.. They will give you the info on why the RX8 suspension is totally superior to any RX7's.

Agent_D 04-24-06 12:30 PM

from what ive seen, all this talk about superior suspension means nothing, when you take drivers with enough skill thats pretty much a non issue. i mean look at some of the best motoring video's where tsuchiya keeps up with or beats new cars in his AE86, that car is even older than FC's.

i've seen vids of FC's killing R34's, new porsche 911's, etc etc. it all depends on how well tuned it is and how well you can drive.

HyperDrachen 04-25-06 06:11 PM

Ok so how much of the rx-8 internals can I use. Anyone have a line on actual frankensteining a 13b? I have a 1988 n/A, I have a spare n/a 13b id like to modernize a bit with the lighter rotors...plus the rear rotor from my 13b is kinda gapped at one of the apexis.

I want to take my FC to that event and see what I can do against these so called superior RX-8. Lose the extra doors and seats susie : P. Boo to TCS.

Well I hope the RX-8 is successful enough and theres enough clammor about rotorys to keep them supported and innovated. I want to be driving my 88 with a hydrogen rotary in 2010 prease : ).
