OEM GAS TANK or FUEL CELL TANK
3 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys
i just got an rx7 fc and the first thing that i noticed was that it needed another tank cause its rusted out and i was thinking of getting a fuel cell because i wanted the car to be a street car and a track car at the same time which isnt very achievable and especially in my budget but i was thinking since the fuel rails and most of the fuel components needed to be replaced because they look oxidated and dont look like they could handle hard driving so im not sure should i just go with the oem tank and rails ? btw im looking for a budget for the whole fuel system at about 300 dollars and the pictures are of the gas tank currently on. |
1) I'm not sure that Fuel cells are street legal, somebody check me on that.
2) You aren't going to install a fuel cell system with lines and rails for under $300. Is this car NA or Turbo? If it's turbo, what are your power goals? If it's NA, then just source some good OEM replacements and spend the money on suspension components and making sure everything works well. (6-ports, etc...) |
I've got a full fuel system off of an 87 NA that I would let go for 150 bucks. I am near wilkes barre, PA...not to far from you

personally, i'd drop the tank first to see what's leaking. it doesn't look all that rusty in the pics. usually if it's the tank, it'll be leaking at the seam. so if you notice drips after filling up more than halfway, it probably is the tank
|
Are you sure the leak is the tank? Run the fuel pump first and check for leaks. Jump the yellow test connector at the passenger shock tower and turn the key to RUN to activate the fuel pump. I'm betting you'll find a cracked fuel line somewhere near the top of the tank.
Also, fuel rails don't typically rust through. You'll likely just need to clean them up instead of replace. |
oh i ll check for that and post the pics thanks for the info so just to recap theres fuel lines running by the rear shock tower on the passenger side on top of the tank to look for ?
