Odds of getting a good motor?

Im looking to get a 13BT swap. I heard that usually the motor is dead when it arrives and you need a reubild. So my question is what are the chances of getting a good healthy motor?

You have to assume JDM motors will have bad internals.

7!?!?!?! awesome

yea man, its a good idea just to rebuild them right off the bat.

Well think about it ... There from japan, the main sport is drifting. So they get bagged on, on top of that they sit for a couple years. I'd say 90% chance of needing a rebuild?

cmanns 12-23-07 09:31 PM

Bad enough that I would NEVER buy a JDM motor if I didn't already have the money set aside for a rebuild.

truth.

I had one with decent compression, it ran great for about 8 months and then i lost a coolant seal.

funny how people will buy a whole running car and not think another thing of it when the engine dies in a few months or a year, but if they buy a used engine they assume it must have just been a bad engine?

I sold close to 25 JDM motors, most of them are still running to this day.

If your plan is to bolt on a larger turbo and run on a crappy home tune beating the piss out of the car then any used engine wont last very long.
