Odd problem on new engine

Was wondering if anyone can help shed some light on an odd issue I cant seem to isolate. Had my engine rebuilt (a 1985/6 13B ) recently. It also had its Mikuni carb rebuilt shortly before the engine rebuild. After about 650 miles, the engine just died while idling at a left turn signal and wouldn't start. Engine needs to be broken in more to better seat the seals.

Almost everything was new (coils, engine, fuel pump, battery ) so I decided to check the ignitors as they were not new. Wiring up the test circuit in an RX7 Service Guide, I was able to find that one of them would not latch on. I replaced this ignitor and the engine seemed started yet sounded like it was running on a single rotor. I then checked spark on each plug --- they were all very healthy. Replaced the plugs with no effect. I also replaced the fuel pump, even though the existing one seemed OK. No effect. The fuel pressure regulator has been adjusted upward with no effect and returned to the original setting. The engine still is running on a single rotor and has no power.

I checked compression and found each rotor to be about same - around 75 psi. This is a little low but is acceptable for a newer engine with less than 700 miles of break-in.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Pictures don't do the paint justice. At the shows I've taken her to, when people make a comment, its always on the 'awesome' paint job. Nostalgic 70's.... It's 29 this year. Quite the eye turner.

Who fed you that line?

700 miles and still 75psi? 700 miles should be enough to get the engine mostly broken in.. you should be in the 95+ range.

Have you checked your timing? Having your timing off can severely affect engine performance, idle, startup, etc..
