Odd drivability problem

Hi guys im new here, I just got an FC and its got this weird drivability problem
Okay what it does it will idle up and down but when you take off its limited to only 4,000rpm. okay I cut it of crank it back up now it will go through 1st and 2nd but when i hit third it bogs down again to 4,000 but i try to accelerate in third and it goes past 4,000 but its skipping horribly and when i try to go and accelerate in 1st and second it wont go past 4,000. cut it off crank up runs clean to the rev limit in first and second? any ideas I found one thing though the air flow meter plug is broke and cracked but the wires look fine but there are two where the insulation split. i put electrical tape around it and tryed holding in the afm with duct tape but it still does it. I know drivability problems are hard to diagnose but any and all help would be greatly appreciated. PS. I forgot to add that the car is open header someone cut off the exhaust all the way to the manifold down pipe

not to be an ass... Spell things out a little more clearly and use periods. Hard to read what your saying.

SpeedOfLife 05-01-07 08:22 PM

do these cars have an O2 sensor in the exhaust system? he mentioned the exhaust is cut. or something like that... way too hard to read, man.

posibly the tps .. use the manual to find out how to test it , its really easy

Sorry bout that guys i was in a rush. The odd thing about it is that it will stumble about 3800rpm, but when I turn the key off while rolling and then crank it up again it will run all the way to the rev limit free of hesitation and misfiring. but as soon as third gear hits about 3800rpm it will start acting up and wont rev willingly above it.

isnt 3800 when secondary injectors come online. Maybe it is a real bad case of 3800rpm hesitation.

Is it an S4 or an S5?

If you have an electric OMP, that might be the problem if its not working properly.
If its not electric, then I suggest you check and make sure all of your grounds in the engine bay connect well, meaning free of rust and such.

s5 na

have you regrounded your engine? it doesn't hurt to run a thicker wire from the block to the firewall or strut. make sure you sand the paint off where you place the ground.

I'd also check to see if the 5th and 6th ports are opening properly.

odd thing to when the car is off the oil gage reads 30. Is that related to the omp?

but why would it pull strong in first and second gear when i cut it off. its got pretty decent power when I cut it back on but as soon third hits about 3800-4000 it bogs . I dont get it

You have an electric OMP if its an S5.

When the OMP (Oil metering pump) malfunctions or doesn't function properly, the engine cuts at 3800 so that it prevents damage to the engine since its not being properly lubricated.

I suggest you use a voltometer and check if its still good.

I witnessed this problem first hand 2 years ago. Changed the OMP and everything came back to normal.

okay guys i am pretty sure the secondarys arent firing, but im not 100% sure because the exhaust is so loud. I dont hear them clicking at all at 3500-3800 w/stethoscope.
Whats the resistance for the OMP?

Have you tried the 3800 rpm hesitation fix in the FAQ?
