Which o2 sensor to get?
 

I need a new o2 sensor, which should I get from the local autoparts store? Does it really matter?

buy the bosche one b/c it comes with 10 bucks in gas

I'm looking at the O2 sensor at RX7.com and they're asking $40 for an RP Aftermarket O2 sensor. Is that too much?
I know NGK sells O2 sensors, are they good?

Just go for a $20 Bosch Universal.

I got ripped on one from Bumper to Bumper. $40 doesn't seem all that bad for an 02 sensor.

If you get the $20 Bosch O2 sensor you have to solder on the connector from your old one.

If you pay $40 typically the connector is attached.

Reminds me, I need to take a soldering iron back to school with me.

Connector? What connector haha, my current o2 sensor is on a wire running directly into the ECU, so I just have to add a spade connector onto the the wire. Where can I get shielded wire anyways?

Bosch. The cheaper the better. Crimp on your own connector. I don't have the answer for the shielded wire. NOT Radio Shack, I can tell you that much. Mabe Jameco.com? Or?

ended up getting the universal bosch single wire for 19 bucks and change at a local place, still in the hunt for shielded wire. Home Depot and Radio Shack both didnt have it.

Or Digikey or maybe if you have a FRYS electronic store nearby or it seems someone who installs radios in cars would have a shielded cable.

10 bucks in gas?

I was thinking about getting the $40 Bosche one, as well. 10 bucks is a quarter tank to me. I just have to find the socket designed to take out the 02 sensor.

You can rent the universal socket from Autozone....

BTW a 7/8 wrench fits it.

i got the bosch and replaced it in about 5 mins. they got ones that are already wired all you gotta do is take your old one out, the new one in and plug it back up. its like a 120 bucks so i just got the universal for 19. i found an auto hobby shop that let me use a spot for 2 bucks an hour and all the tools i needed. iwas done in about 5 mins.

I bought a Borg Warner (OS112) O2 sensor off of ebay, of all places.
Total price was $40.20. The sensor was prewired with the connector.
I purchased the O2 tool from my local parts house for $9.99. The O2 tool is just a 7/8 deep socket that has had a section removed to clear the wire.
Definately an easy job swapping them out, the only hard part was getting the old one out and the old sensor I took out was a NGK.

WOW Im glad to hear b/c I went to the dealership( yeah I know...) and they want 250+ for oem so if you get one for 40 bucks jump on it. Ill be on it on pay day. I think any single wire o2 work and then like they mentioned just solder or crimp the spade connector.

I had a bosch one and for some odd reason I failed my etest 3 times in a row..did a diagnostics on it and mechanic said the o2 sensor is being 'lazy'...so i switched to OEM...hopefully I pass tommorow.

Did the mechanic get the code off of the computer that said o2? I doubt he had the the mazda specific blinker or number wave reader or knew how to initialize it to read with the various other methods.

I also doubt that the o2 sensor is your only emissions problem. Read some of the information on going into closed loop on this forum.
