O-rings....
Alright,
So I am putting my S4 Turbo II reman back together, in my external gasket set that came with the motor were 3 o-rings (in the pic). I was just wondering where they went. the 2 smaller ones I was thinking went on the LIM, what about the larger one? Thanks for any help. |
The big one is for the MOP.
The other two small ones are for the oil pedestal, the aluminum thing that the oil filter screws onto. |

well I thought the smaller ones were for the oil pedestal.... but I was not sure... I removed the MOP so that other one does not matter.....
My other question... The FSM says to put a new o-ring and gasket on the LIM..... do I need that o-ring? |

you need the o-ring for the water passage that goes through the LIM to the turbo.

Remove the lower intake manifold and you will see where the O rings go. I think n/a engines only have one coolant passage and I think turbo engines have 2. Its pretty self explanatory once you remove the manifold.

it'll leak coolant if you don't use it.

turbos have 2, na's have 0. you must use both orings on a turbo.

If the passage is "welded" shut on the housing, it means you have an NA housing. If it's shut on the manifold, then someone pluged it for some unknown reason...

I don't believe you understand. True, the LIM has ONE coolant passage...the other is just solid aluminum, part of the manifold, MADE THAT WAY. However, if you look at the BLOCK, it will have 2 coolant passages, one on each rotor housing. The front one dead ends at the manifold...the back one supplies water to the turbo via the LIM. You must STILL use BOTH o-rings; using an oring only on the rear means the front will leak.
Trust me on this, use 2 orings. |
