Now my true noobness shows..

Ok So my Jspec s5 t2 motor is sitting on a pallet in my garage. Decided to check compression on it. Now I know I don't have the mazda tool but I have also read many of you don't use them anyway. I also know that to get a true reading the motor needs to be up to operation temps ect ect.. But I figured I could get an Idea of what I was looking at as far as if I needed to rebuild right away. So I hooked my battery up to the harness and turned the motor over And tested the rear rotor first and I did the surge test first and it was right at 85 psi everytime the needle surges then I let go of the button and within the first 3 or 4 surges it went straight to 110 psi Then I did the same thing on the leading plug same readings.

Then to front rotor, and nothing. Zero!!! Any Ideas?

probably apex seals stuck from sitting. Mine were, shot some oil in there, turned it over till they freed up. good compression.

Correction on the surge PSI it is 25 not 85...

thanks ABC I will try that.... Nice name btw, where all your normal ones taken?

No, I hate registering for websites, so lame, so I had an fb at the time, hence ABCDE-fb! tada!

Inspect the apex seals through the exhaust first. If they are intact and go ahead an spin the motor up. Drop some oil inside the chamber. check compression from the T plug holes. Cold you should see at least 75psi on all faces. It is not uncommon to find a 100psi on one rotor and 75 on another if this is the running case expect it to blow.

Thanks guys, I'll let ya know I'll mess with it tonight.

i know that with the "bounce" test, it should be in the 30-35 range, so i think your right in there.

iceblue 08-19-07 06:51 PM

30 to 35 range thats one weak motor. It should be 80 to 120

cpubugs 08-19-07 07:01 PM

Ice we're talking cold, not even in the car. Still weak?

CrackHeadMel 08-19-07 07:04 PM

Yes

Umm... sad...

^Yeah, just rebuild it and you'll be set :D:D

BTW, I've been to the 1/8mile track in Lakeland a few times.

cpubugs 08-20-07 09:17 PM

Shh.. dont say that, Our poor poor track...

Yeah I was thinking about rebuilding anyway. The guy I want to send it to is in TN, so I may just attempt it myself...
