Has anyone had this problem?
The car will not start. Engine doesn't even turn over. All I get is a click from various solenoid under the dash and hood.
I can push start it, so its not the engine.
I changed the starter interlock switch and the car worked for a week, now the same thing again.
The switch is showing continuity. Can the alarm system be interfering with the starter? Or do I have another bad starter interlock switch (on the clutch pedal).
This is driving me nuts...

Could be the battery terminals need cleaning,the brushes in the starter could be worn.

This is just an internal click in the solenoids under the dash, no juice going to the motor at all. Battery terminals are clean. Its as if the starter interlock or something was not providing juice to the starter.

just replace the starter bro...I had a problem but my starter basically burnt out and I heard this clicking sound after I used to take my key out of the ignition and basically shut the car off...that was b4 the starter went...I replaced the starter and it works fine now...if u can try to get it rebuilt...no sense in buying a new one unless u have a Pep Boys nearby ...they offer a new aftermarket for about the same price someone might rebuild...be careful when u put the battery terminal on the copper bolt as to not tighten it too much...I did that and broke it but finally fixed that too...good luck...peace

So if I've turned the key and all I get is a solenoid click, it could still be the starter? The solenoid is under the dash by the way.

OK, there is a relay that can cause this problem. It is the starter cut relay, and is located behind the trailing coils, I believe. There is a Light green/Yellow stripe wire on this relay connected to the Theft Deterrent Unit. If the unit applies a ground, the starter will not start. The input to the relay is directly from the clutch interlock switch (12v). If the unit does not apply a ground and you do not have 12V on the Black/White stripe wire, probably a bad relay. If you have 12V on the Black/White stripe wire, the starter is bad, this wire goes directly to the starter solenoid. Good luck!

The above will fix your problem. I'm just writing this to suggest getting rid of that interlock switch. Jumper the wires and be done with it. I really hate having to depress the clutch to turn the engine over. There are times where all you want to do is reach in the car window and turn the engine over, but, oh no! Some genius decided that the clutch should be depressed before the engine can be turned over. Can't be too safe can we. Grrrrr. Took maybe ten minutes out of my life to remedy that. Interlock sw rates right up there with the ding, ding, ding, kding that lets me know that the doors open. Real squid thought these things up.

Well, after those extremely well though out and written answers I determined that there was power going to the starter via that black/white stripe wire. I then got a rebuilt starter. I installed that but for some reason, my battery is now dead. I did take the negative off the post while I was working on the starter.
Now, when I turn the key, the tach jumps a bit and there is a squealling noise coming from under the dash somewhere.
I changed the ignition wiring earlier thinking it was a bad ignition switch.
What's the squealling/buzzing under the dash?
By the way, I will see about jumping that interlock switch.

If the battery is darn low, the buzzard will make a squealing/buzz noise. Don't ask me how I know this. Just charge the batt up. Can't say how your batt went bad if you had the neg terminal off. Sounds like a suspicious battery.

It was a low battery. I charged it up. We'll see if it holds up. Thanks for all the advice everyone!!!
