Noise inside cabin. Please Read! Experience needed!

I ALWAYS search before i post and found nothing! Somone asked this similar question but got no real response.

The noise is a soft low ticking/clicking noise it sounds like it is coming from the ECU. It only comes on when both doors are shut and the car is off and it is very soft noise under the dash around the ecu/kickpanel area.

Also, for others with the a similar question, there have also been clicking noises coming from around the ECU area under the dash in the past. Loud clicking and continuous. Same scenario also, only when both doors are shut. Also it is only when the car is off and keys are not in the ignition.

I'm pretty sure there are others with the same problem and i'd like to know what we need to search for and how to fix this problem.

91 GXL (TII)

thanks in advance

Does it go away with doors closed & unlocked (ie the alarm light is off)? The only other thing I can think of in that area would be the factory external radio amp.

Does this have a factory or aftermarket alarm>

My GTU and my Sport would do this. I beleive its a main relay or some sort of breaker switching on/off.

does it do it when the engine is cold? because it could just be your downpipe contracting after youve turned teh engien off.

it actually starts when i close the doors. it will do its klickity klick thing and then stop when i turn key to on, and go right back to klickity klick when i take it out. it lasts for about 35 sec and very annoying. yes it is a factory alarm.

I have a feeling it is a relay, but why would it do this, it's happened a couple of times but not sure why. does anyone know which relay i need to look for?

definitely not the DP, doesnt make that kind of noise.

Ever find that relay, lnlycrpr? My FC is doing this now too. Strange click-click around the passenger dash area when the car is off.

its the alarm system. mine quit doing it when i pulled it out and tossed it.

Do you have the auto retrack seatbelts operating correctly? There is the seatbelt relay/seatbelt cpu unit under the passenger side dash.

Yes the seatbelts operate normally, I do tend to think that it is something to do with the alarm system, but I do not think that I want to remove the alarm. I remember that Icemark recommended not removing it due to some complications that can develop. Perhaps, someone can provide a little more insight into this?

i had no problems like some say. i just took it out, and that was it.

I think i had this click you speak of on my S4 TII. I also had a relay clicking sound come from the rear driver's side speaker area at the same time. I don't have the anti-theft, the car is cold, no auto seat belts, but it does have an after market stereo.

I think I un-plugged the front radio amp (under glove box) and it stopped. I was also tring to troubleshoot a low idle voltage at the time. I replaced my battery to fix the low idle voltage and I haven't hear the clicking again.

i never did find out what the hell was going on. it would just randomly do it. I was not the alarm. arm and disarm the alarm while in the car (have your buddy help you). call me crazy or what have you... but it stopped doing it when i swapped my ECU over to the aftermarket one. the old ecu i had in my car was a reman so i dont know if that is what it was. I could be totally off/wrong and may get a butt chewin for this but it stopped after i changed it. ??? i dunno???
