No Start
89 T2
Car cranks but doesn't start. I had the UIM off, blocked off the ACV. There are no vac leaks I can see, I'm positive everything is plugged in. I did replace the spark plugs, I haven't checked those yet. What else that is associated with the intake/UIM/turbo(put a new one in) might not be plugged in/connected? Any ideas as to what I should check? |
Forgot to mention, it also has oil pressure when cranking. I could also here the fuel system working when I primed it.
|
Also would not having the boost controller lines connected to the intake/wastegate affect this at all?
|
check plugs.....if you have spark, check your AFM plug and make sure it's secure...
|
Ok, I just got it to start, turns out i forgot to plug in some plug that was under the top mount. Now it just starts and dies, it puffs out some smoke too.
|
well...it could also be flooded too...
|
Alright, it just started and revved to 4500, I waited just a sec, then shut it off. I assume I need to adjust the idle.
|
Acting really wierd...
When I just try and start it w/o my foot on the gas it starts, revs to 1500 and cuts out right away, it is impossible to keep it alive. When I try to start it with the throttle 1/2 to 3/4 depressed it starts, goes to 3k for a split second then goes up to 5k and beyond. I don't know where to start, anybody want to give me an idea as to what to do? I have no idea how to adjsut the idle, after looking at the FSM I just got more confused. |
It sounds like the throttle cable is too tight for *some reason*. If I were you I'd pull the intercooler off and take a look to see if the throttle plates are all the way closed. Or try to see if something is jamming the linkage keeping the throttle plates open.
On a turbo you can't easily look at the throttle plates because it's hard to remove the intake duct. But you can look a the approx 1/8" diameter idle stop screw to see if it is touching the linkage when no one is touching the pedal. If you see a lot of daylight b/t the stop screw and the linkage, then you need to find out why. The approx 1/8"dia screw has a jam nut of 8mm wrench size and the screw is approx 1/2" long. |
Alright, which one is the throttle cable, one wraps around the top of the engine and goes behind the intercooler, the other comes from passenger side and goes straight back to the same location as the other one. Or are you talking about something completely different?

Check if your alt is good. And yes to what HAILERS said.

Alright, while removing the IC to get to the TB another hose thought it would be a good idea to break(these old hoses are ridiculously brittle). Anyway, it is the "unit" mounted to the UIM right above the BAC. It has a hose that runs into the intercooler (in the picture, the hose runs into where the big cap is). Can I remove this thing and plug up the hoses that run into it or do I need it, I assume since the barb coming off the IC is plugged up in the picture I can remove it, just wanted to check.

This damn thing is really pissing me off, I don't want to pull another all nighter.
Hailers-Whereabout is this 1/8" idle stop screw? The way you phrased everything is a bit confusing. |
