No Oil!

i have no oil getting through the oil lines they are dry i just replaced the OMP because the spring was rusted and it was stuck wide open and now i do not have oil goin through i am premixing at the moment but i would like to fix this

RotaryEvolution 06-14-05 01:47 AM

did you happen to use silicone to seal the OMP to the front cover?

derek420 06-14-05 01:50 AM

no

RotaryEvolution 06-14-05 01:53 AM

how long did you let the engine run while you checked for oil to be pumping? the OMP does not supply all that much oil pressure so it does take a little time to fill the lines.

i let it run for about 5 minutes there was some oil in it but then i looked again and it was dry and the oil pressure gauge was jumping a little bit

Loosen the four banjo bolts at the omp and idle the engine/rev the engine and see if there is a puddling of oil under the car. Even, and much better. remove the rod at the throttle body and tie it to the full up positon while doing the idle routine. THEN after ten/fifteen minutes tell us there is/is not oil puddling under the car.

The engine is not going to turn to trash if the omp does not work over as short a period as say several hundred miles. That's my guess with no facts to back it up other than the first RX's did not have omp's and didn't wear out for several tens of thousands of miles.

Just FYI: The oil *ooches* up the lines or pulses up the lines SLOWLY.

I'll have to add the word "ooches" to my technical jargon...

Any particular reason you want the MOP to continue functioning? Premix is better for the engine.

Since you're premixing right now, I'd say just drive it around for a while and see what happens. It may take a while for the MOP to prime itsself and start pushing oil. You won't hurt the engine at all (especially since you're premixing). Take it out on the highway, get the oil nice and warm, cruise around for a while, and see if you get any oil in those lines.

The OMP isn't a pump. The pressure is supplied by the engine oil pump, quantity limited by the stepping motor (S5), or the throttle activated lever (S4), oil pulled into chambers by vacuum. At least that's my take on the omp

Why is there a driveshaft for the MOP, then? As I understand it, it's a very small positive displacement pump.
