No more metal clinking when I shut the door!
So the car has always been plagued by that metal clinking sound when you shut the door. All the door internals rattleing and what not. Well I decided I would try something. Since the door panel was rattled with a big hole for a non-existent speaker, and matted fabric, I decided it was time to fab up something better. So I took a few hours and covered the old paneling in vinyl. On top of that, I added an extra layer of cheap pressure fiber cardboard stuff. Pretty tough stuff. I sprayed both sides of the panel with sound deadener prior to the vilyn. I used some silver sound deadeneding tape over all the holes and then cut holes back in it and peeled it around.
After the install I rolled the window down and closed the door. *thump*. the door FINALLY after all these years sounds like its got some meat on it and is more than just a piece of sheet metal. I need to redo the driverside door and do the same to it. The muffled thump is so much better sounding then *clink clank scratch clink clink*. Supplies: Spray adhesive, about 40 staples, sound deadener spray, sound deadner tape, cardboard, vilyn. I didn't use much of the supplies at all, I would say the entire project used about $10 or so prorated. |
