No gauge cluster lights
 

I've lost my gauge cluster lights, as well as the light behind the cigarette lighter. I've looked and tested everything, these are the only ones out.

I swapped the headlight switch and harness for a known good one, with no luck. I also swapped the entire cluster out, also no luck. Everything in the car works as it should, headlights go up and down, high/low beams, everything works just fine except I have no cluster lights. I checked the interior and engine bay fuses, all are fine.

Any idea where to start looking?

When you flip the switch to the first position the Red/Green wire in the headlight harness ought to have voltage. Does it? It is this wire which powers the items you are having problems with. This wire also powers the small bulbs in the hazard switch, turn switch wiper switch etc. Are you saying that these lights work? If they do then you possibly have a poor connection between connectors such as FI-02 which mates the front and instrument harness and allows the lighter bulb to receive voltage. If you remove the ash tray you should be able to find the R/G wire to see if it has voltage when it is supposed to. If it does then the Black ground wire to the lighter bulb is problematic.

Sometimes people who use high wattage bulbs can burn out the harness.
Pull out the headlight switch and see if there's any burnt area at the connector.

No lights in the cluster or any of the switches. The dimmer function works on my radio though.

Any way to repair the headlight switch? I've gone through a dozen of these damn things over the years. I'm sure they're not as easy to find as they used to be.

The problem likely lies within one of the internal relays. The easy,easy fix is to jumper the Red/Green wire which has no voltage to the Red/Black wire in the same harness. R/B powers the tail lights so when you flip the switch the power from R/B will power up all the items connected to R/G. You'll lose the ability to dim these specific lights, but the lights would receive full power so they'll be full on w/respect to how bright they will be. I never really had any need to dim these lights, but different strokes for different folks. Lastly, it's necessary that the R/G problemed wire is not accidentally grounded out which would prevent the lights from turning on although if this were the case then you should find some damage in the harness.

When you say that you have checked everything, I guess that includes taillights and side lights and the tail lamp fuse...right?

Correct. I searched before posting, so I'm familiar with all of the symptoms of a bad switch. My situation seemed different because it was only the gauge and nothing else.

Wherewhere is the red and green wire located for the headlights that control all the lights connected to it

I I think I put high voltage lights on my car maybe that's why dash is not working
