No Fuel! =(
 

The fuel pump isn't turning on, even with the yellow pin jumpered.

I don't want to swap in a new one before I make SURE it's getting power... I have a feeling it isn't.

Anyone have a guide to diagnosing this situation?

What leads can I test for voltage in the fuel pump plug?

Any help appreciated!

get your haynes mannuel I think it tells you everything there. also try hooking your test light to the hot wire then get someone to turn the key and see if you get light.

Yep, covered that stuff...

No way to tell which of the 4 leads is the "hot" lead... I tried all of them and got unreliable readings.. but something like 5.5v on one of them.

I rarely ask questions on here, when I do I've covered all the bases I can myself heh... but electrical starts to mess with me.

I can't read electrical diagrams very well (don't know what most of the symbols mean, I just know the basic ones like resistor, ground, etc etc) so I skimmed over this one, figured out with help from my dad that there's a relay in there.. he thinks that relay is bad, but I don't want to jump to something like that before I check the basics... like that all the plugs are plugged in and getting continuity.

How do I check to make sure that the fuel pump is getting the power it needs to run? That's basically all I need to check... if that comes out as ok then I can pull the pump and put in my other car's..

I've got to talk to the previous owner of this car too, I swear he said something about a fuel cutoff switch but I can't find it anywhere! (Doh!) Either he was thinking of the wrong car, or it's likely there's a switch somewhere stopping me. I think I may need to remove some interior pieces. =/ I hate doing that.

There are 4 wires to the pump...2 fat, 2 small. The 2 small ones are the sending unit for the dash gauge, leave those alone. The 2 fat ones are the power supply to the pump. THe black one with teh white stripe is the positive, the black is ground. IF you have doubts about the voltage you get, then run your own new wires for troubleshooting...just string one from the positive battery terminal to the positive terminal of the pump, and ground the black wire at the pump in the hatch somewhere. IF it doesnt turn on then, it's a bad pump.

That is abnormal, Bob. Having the pump not pump. Did you look at your ENGINE fuse in the interior fuse box. If you have lost your fuse box cover, go to the second thread on this forum called FAQ, and go halfway down the thread and you'll see the ENGINE FUSE. If that is good, then take a look at the fuses in the engine bay.
