No dome lite,radio,clock, factory alarm...
 

so i was drivin down a bumpy drive way, and my radio sound output was cuttin out, and the, the radio went dead. not to mention, my clock on the dash is out too, the dome lights dont come on anymore, and the factory alarm wont arm when i lock the last door.

whats the freakin problem? it was a fuse, cuz, the asshole who owned the car before me, replaced the 20A audio fuse w/ a nice beefy 30A fuse...so instead of blowin the fuse, a wire is blown, and is grounding out somehwere.

2 and 2 together, tells me this was the cause of my "mysterious battery drain" i think the sheath burned/melted off of a power wire, and the wire was slowly leaking to ground, and killing my battery every few days. SOOOOOO....

anyone w/ this experience, or wire harness experience? which wire should i look for, where does it run? i do have a custom hi current stereo thats probably responsible for overdrawing the circuit. so a stereo-related power wire? someone talk to me !!

my exhaust is so loud and droning... i need my tunes back, not to mention alarm system, dome lights, and i like to know what the hell time it is!!!!

lol lol lol my car was like that when i bought it! saved me a bundle because most of it was cold soldering problems and the guy thought his car was breaking down so i got it for cheaper. anyways if its not cold soldering than maybe you should be happy because thst stuffs a bitch to fix!!

im almost positive its not a cold solder conn. i think what really happend was that the wiring got overloaded, and got so hot, the insulation burned off, and now its just layin on a piece of metal, grounding out. i just dont know which wire would be the culprit. i hope SOMEone knows the underdash wiring... id like to get everything in workin order so i can sell it for a good price.

The most common short area is around the radio. Its easy to pinch a wire removing/replacing the radio so thats the first place to look. Also if the high power system that whoever added, was wired incorrectly that could be your problem right there. Try disconnecting all the stereo wiring and see if that solves the issue.

The next most common is going to be under the dash on the drivers side. Something getting pinched when work was done.

If you still haven't found it:

You will need to get a shop manual and see what else in on those circuits and how the harnesses run. Visual inspection of the entire harness or replacing the harness is gonna be the only things you can do.

Look on the bright side, if your battery is not draining anymore you have at narrowed it down to the circuit that the problem is on. Mechanics charge $50 an hour sometimes to trace down a drain.

welp, thanks man. i figured thats what i was gonna hafta do.

im almost positive the culprit was the ultra deafening stereo. i think i overdrew amperage from the factory amp wiring, and got to hott. but i pulled the fuse for the whole audio circuit, so it shouldnt be draining anymore. ill need to set aside alot of time for this.

I've got the same problem. I haven't had a stereo in the car in years, but my '90 GXL has no dome lights or factory alarm, and the clock resets every time the engine is started or the doors are opened or the dome light is turned on (then back off, if you leave the dome light in the non-functional "on" position, the clock stays off).

Also, the sunroof is REALLY slow (though that's probably the sunroof motor's fault).

I'll double check to be sure the stereo wiring isn't grounding out.

As far as the dome light and clock did you check the Room fuse?

Omg Old! Fuse!

i had that problem before. i found out that the "ROOM" fuse was blown and there was a short somewhere because as soon as i put a new one in it popped again. so i had to unplug the things that were powered by that fuse. then i put the fuse back in and it was fine. i then plugged back in the dome and it blew again when i went to bolt it back up. i found a wire was pinched inbetween the rear view mirror mounting flange. after that all my interior lights worked.
