no boost *HELP*

I just put an s5 turbo on my car.My compressor wheel is spinning but not making any boost.Anybody have any ideas i think the wastegate isnt opening.
(It made 4 pounds of boost on the first test run and wont make anything now).

start by checking vac lines and other air leaks. did you check to see if the wheels spin together. i've snapped a comp wheel before.

well i no there isnt vac leaks the car idles mint no problem there just when i start to drive it also when giving it gas on neutral sounds like there is a vac leak but there isnt one more like a hesitation.

You mean the wastegate is open if you aren't making boost. Even if it were fully stuck open, it should make some boost though. You could also have a boost leak, pre TB dumping air.

Just read this after I posted. Careful, I JUST discovered today a vacuum leak with your exact symptoms. It was a slight one, but it was there. My car idles great and steady, but I got a slight hesitation that I couldn't seem to dial out. I also could hear a hiss around my UIM.

Same thing you seem to have. Look harder. In my case, it was behind the UIM where a previous mechanism was removed, but never blocked off.

All that being said, it shouldn't account for 0 boost though.

well i test drove again even on high rpms gauge still reads 0 and has some hesitation while driving.

beefhole 05-15-10 11:07 PM

I assume you are reading vacuum then, and when you hit 0, it's just not passing it. Hesitation means leaning out. Vacuum leaks, we reiterate for a reason. :)

no it wont go past and as i said before when installed and drove for the first time it went to 4pounds on 3rd gear and when going into 4th dropped to 0 and never boosted again.

running power FC no tune dont no if it helps.s5 jdm motor and just bought this turbo which is also off jdm motor

bumpstart 05-15-10 11:17 PM

missing circlip has made the wastegate arm fall off ,, and hence wastegate is blowing open

else sometimes low boost is from poor clocking of the compressor and the turbine covers,, effectively amounting to a longer wastegate arm ( and low boost setting ) on internal wastegate turbos

ecko 05-15-10 11:18 PM

ive checked that the clip is still on

beefhole 05-15-10 11:28 PM

Well, if you hit 4 PSI then all of a sudden nothing, something has popped. If you swear by no vacuum leak, then I still think the wastegate is stuck, and/or a coupler has massive leak.
Then again "no tune", you shouldn't be trying to boost.

Maybe the turbo is bad?

ecko 05-15-10 11:31 PM

well i been taught to set the power FC manually to run fine.Could be the wastegate(internal sucks) turbo has almost no shaft play i dont see what can be wrong with it.

Problem solved thank you Rx7club.
