Next power upgrade for me - what to do?
alright, as of now i have a 88 gxl automatic:
im asking about power upgrades (please dont suggest transmission/gears) current mods(not all are installed at the moment, but lying around.): rebuilt, aggresive street port pineapple sleeves k&n drop in (doing a true CAI) s5 uim+vdi on s4 block k2rd block off plates my cats are wimps.....no guts =] dynomax catback other than that, its stock power wise.... ive seen people putting tii afm's on, tii fuel pumps, bigger injectors - worth doing? where do i go from here? |
what are your power goals? You gotta have a goal, whether its a quarter mile time, HP number, torque number, you gotta aim for something. I mean I could tell you to get a turbo tranny, and a supercharger, but you already said not to suggest a manual tranny, so I don't know. Why don't you decide what you want instead of asking us to tell you what you want.

looking for bolt-on ideas.

Firstly, I would go back to the series 4 intake... the series 5 is really only beneficial with a stock or mild port job. Secondly gutted cats will not flow as well as a straight pipe. I would take care of that with some headers and presilencer. Also the dynomax unit doesn't really flow much better than stock. Might want to look into the racing beat catback(if you care about noise) or maybe a larger single. NO need to go bigger than 2.5" diameter piping though. So the RB system really should be pretty good for the job. Clean out the series 4 intake by grinding out the troublesome spots... since you have your engine ported you might want to do some port matching as well(assuming the person who ported it ground out metal throughout the port)

hmmmm, i have the s4 uim, vdi, lim on the car now, and an s5 uim, s5 vdi, and s4 lim sitting in the floor.....
judging from the other 3, 4 posts everyone said going to this setup was the best? what does the porting job have to do with anything? if it flows better, it flows better? |
if you decide to upgrade fuel i have primary and secondary injectors and a fuel pump off my S5 TII

As for bolt ons get the full exhuast done. Do that first, just get a header/presilencer on there and better cat-back if you can. Your choking the life out of that street port. |
well yea, the manifolds are gonna be portmatched....
but i dont see why that guy said stay s4. |
