Newbie Questions

How much did you pay for your RX? Is it likely to find one in good running/driving condition for <2000? and even if it is how long do they last? Should I not buy one with over 100K on it? I am considering ethier an second gen RX or a 86-89 Supra any suggestions?

my 87TII cost me 1550, it has 140k and still running strong. My body could be better but sometimes your ganna have to fix things after 15 years of abuse, they will last as long as you love and redline them, they like being beat on to a certain point.Thats all my input for the time being,id get a rx its ganna be faster

This IS the RX7 Forum, so I'll have to say "Buy an RX7" :D

Anyway, no matter how many miles the car/engine has seen, there are some simple tests you can do to see what condition the car is in:

- compression check,
- check radiator for bubbles,
- check for oil leaks,
- check the usual (clutch, steering, brakes, etc) as you would do for any other car.

If everything turns out fine, then you're good to go.
However, even if the car has like <10K miles, but the compression is below 75, or there are bubbles in the radiator, or there are obvious oil leaks, then dont do it.

As simple as that ;)

If you are buying a non-turbo, then do what THe Ace said. but if you looking for a Turbo II, most likely the only ones you will find at that price are RED in not really good condition, with miles above 120K. Prepare to spend some restoration money on the TII. Regular models last much longer. I have a friend who owns a base model with 180K, still running strong.

good luck on your search

I bought my n/a for 1700 with 66000 miles on it. Body needs a little work, but mechanically its sound. So yes if you find the right car and buy it from the right person.
