Just picked this gem up for a good price. I'm really not sure where to go with it. It's my second favorite S4 color combo. Has no options except A/C. No sunroof. 104k miles. Not sure on it's history. But it seems to be fairly well taken care of. But it sat for a good while with fuel in the tank and has a leaky brake line.
I'm thinking a plain Jane S4 turbo swap, lower it some, restore it inside and out and drive it. Thoughts? |

I just can't leave well enough alone! I've already got a reliable, fuel efficient and fun daily. So I want a project now! I'm 28 years old! I'm almost a full grown man!

Id do all the maintenance to get it up to par, fix the brake line issue, then clean it up real good. Sell it and just buy a turboII.

Easier said than done around here. I was lucky to find this one. And why pay the $5k or so that people are wanting for a TII these days when you can do a swap for less?
Plus, this is a gold and burgundy base. About as undesirable as possible. |
doing a t2 swap the right way below 5k is a myth.

There's a million threads just like this, everyone says they're going to do a TII swap to be different and to save money, and they're almost always wrong. But hey, this may be the one to prove everyone over the last 30 years wrong!

I didn't say anything about doing it just to be different or cheaper. Not at all. I turned out a decent starting point for a decent price. I'm not interested in restoring and selling. I'm not interested in waiting for a TII to turn up locally. And I'm not interested in traveling larger distances to pick up a car. (The last one is more because I work 6 days a week most the time.)
I've hardly seen an FC local. Let alone a TII. I've been around quite a while. And I'm pretty sure every FC that's local to me is there because of me. I'll work with what I have, because that's what I want to do. I wanted a bare bones FC. And I also wanted champagne and burgundy. Find me a champagne and burgundy TII, that's running and reliable, has no power options and no sunroof. And find it within 100 miles of me. I'll buy it. |

I got a parts getter..(my "Tony" Montana Sv6!) an FC with a kick ass audio system and a project in the garage. NOW..if I had money ..and what do you call them things?..oh ya..a GIRL!..I would be set! |

Well you asked what direction to go in but it seems you have the plan you want down to a science. Which is great. Follow it and enjoy.

Paint the wheels bronze or black with a polished lip or completely painted in those colors . With a drop would look nice . Go down on the profile of the tires to maybe 45's or 50's

I'm south eastern. About 30 miles from TN. I've found and bought a few N/A's like that. But never a TII. Last TII I found was blown and the guy wanted $3500 and would NOT budge. I'm a tightwad and will hold out for a price I'm comfortable with haha.

my lint is mostly dirt. 3500 for a blown tII what a douche, i paid 500 for my first TII and drove it away on one rotor!

I make fiberglass acoustics parts for Ford/Chrysler/GM/Nissan. So my belly button lint is a ball of itchy hell.

Everything on me is an itchy piece of hell. 7am every morning I leave feeling like I've got poison ivy. Fiberglass dust is no joke. Especially when you work directly in it. Handling it.
Kinda like a hooker. When your entire body is in there for 12 hours, you're coming out itching in places you didn't know you could itch. |
Protect your lungs. You have a long way to go and you, contrary to what you may believe now, are not six foot tall and bulletproof.

Fiberglass dust on the Peenie can lead to blindness..due to excessive rubbing to get rid of the itch.
(not to mention the funny looks when you get uncomfortable..and you are white guy that can't dance...lol!) |
I made the mistake of not washing my hands prior to going when I first started. Horrible.
