New Member - Several FC3S Questions!
 

Whats up everyone, im Jeff, an 18 yr old proud new owner of a FC3S. She sat in the previous owner's garage for 4 years without being driven more than 10 miles. Shes got just a LITTLE bit of rust, but is PRISTINE otherwise. Nice red paint, and shes got all the options and more power than i really need. I recently did a big tune up and got her running smooth. However, it is only making about 18 lbs of boost, yet the gague reads up to 40. What can i do?
Also, i plan on modifying her up a bit. I was looking for body kits, and only found 2 - an erebuni for 900 and a bomex for almost 1000 (full kits) Do you guys know any sites where i can get a nice kit at a reasonable price? Thanks a million.

Ok the stock guage IS NOT in PSI! ;) And it doesn't have to go to the max to be running right. As for body kits they all suck! :) Don't be a ricer and keep her stock.

yeh, enjoy the car stock for a while, then you'll learn all the various systems that'll break down on you way too often! LOL

You know you say that alot!!!! there are actually some body kits like the RE kits... the Bomex Kit and the mazdaspeed stuff is aerodynamically correct... that means that they aren't rice... because they are desinged to advantage the car... whether it downforce... stability.. or lowering the drag coefficient... not to mention allowing more air into the oil cooler, rad and FMIC!

To me this isn't rice... :)

Congratulations on your purchase of a FC!! check out the FAQ section, there is a lot of good information about things to look for on your newly acquired second gen. almost all of your other questions can be answered by the search button. Research is your friend, this forum has TONS of information, don't be afraid to ask and read. If you intend to get a body kit, it is entirely up to you which one you want, check out http://www.rotaryextreme.com/ for some nice body kits, although expensive ones as well. There are more companies making kits than you think. What year is she? I'm assuming the car is a turbo II since you said the thing about the boost gauge. Your car should boost about 5.5 psi. A good investment after doing general maintainance is a boost gauge, and a Fuel Cut Defender, but its really up to you... Once again, congratulations on your purchase of a FC3S RX-7, welcome to the club.

I don't beleive that priority should be placed on cosmetic/asthetics however aerodynamic they are or whatever. If you buy a sports car you bought it for speed. Money can be more effectively spent on other modifications and add-ons that will be a better use of limited resources(i.e. money). Body kits are normally not purchased for performance either they are bought because they look You know the drill.

It seems you are a wealth of knowledge (on other threads and by your post count), but I dont think you have the right to tell people why they should buy sports cars or what its for, do you?

I'm not a wealth of knowledge lol I'm very particular about waht people do to 7's. Great care is required to keep everything "tastefull" a lot of idiots go around painting things and adding stickers. I provide a harsh jolt to try an keep those idiots away from 7's. :)

Oh yeah he can do whatever he wants with his FC. It IS his car. :) But he'll still be a ricer with messed up priorities.

FC boost gauges are calibrated in tens of millimetres of mercury (that's what the x10 mmHg means).

The scale on the Series 4 boost gauge goes up to "40" meaning 400 mmHg (7.7 psi). The Series 5 boost gauge goes a little higher to "45" or 450 mmHg (8.7 psi). Both gauges go down "-20" (-200 mmHg, 7.9 inHg), but in normal running the actual manifold pressure is much lower than that. Idle is around -400 mmHg; cruise about -250 mmHg and under high-rpm, closed-throttle goes as low as -500 mmHg. The only time you'll see the stock gauge rise off the "-20" mark is under acceleration or when climbing a hill.

Max boost (S4 6.6 psi, S5 8.3 psi) should see both gauges at almost full-scale, but in stock form most cars can't get that high anymore due to clogged cats and worn turbos, but modified cars will easily go off the top of the scale.
