NEW Hesitation thread! Under 1000 rpm??
Ok, I know the advice I give everyone else under these circumstances.. I just finished up the clutch replacement on the T2 and since the clutch job it has been hesitating under 1000rpm. Over 1000rpm it is fine and dandy. It's just when I take off from a stoplight..
The idle is set and is smooth at 900rpm, I tripple checked all my grounds after the transmission went back in.. I haven't seen any vacumme leaks and I checked with carb spray.. I am going to change the air filter, fuel filters, and put some gas treatment in it, because it was sitting for a few months before I got my hands on it. The car leaks nothing, doesn't smoke, and according to my compression tester has 109psi on all faces of both rotors. Any other ideas? Everything functions like it should. |
Variable resistor? adjust it across the band from lean to rich and see if it smooths out any?
|
I did that a few minutes ago.. It idles smoothest at 1/4 turn from full rich, but still didn't solve the hesitiation.. it's strange.. On my way to autozone to buy some filters, plus the alternator belt needs to be replaced..

check timing. might be retarded.
|
Well, drove it about 90 miles, got some fresh gas, and the hesitation is gone... Weird.
|
Break in period on the clutch?
|
Yeah, when you replace a clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced it is a good idea to go a little easy on the clutch until the the disk and the flywheel surface mate up..
An old racer buddy of mine told me it lengthens the use of the clutch... |
clutch grabbing to hard?
|
Maybe... I am going to run it around a little more, but the more I drove it the hesitation went away..
