new guys first question

I just picked up an 87 RX7. I got it from this guy who knew nothing about it. All I can tell is that it needed some routine maintenance and a little tlc. Body's in great shape and everything. Anyway, I have two questions. First, how can I tell what model this car is? I'm guessing it's an SE. It doesn't have many options, nor does it have turbo. It does have 5 lug wheels, and what appear to be better brake calipers than the base model. Secondly, what is the tube that runs out the back of the engine and down along side the exhaust for a little way and then ends. It looks like something to do with the coolant, but I'm not sure. Mine has a hole in it, and I want to make sure that this isn't a big problem.

thanks for the help

The SE had single piston front calipers. I think it had vented rotors in the front & solid in the rear. I think the "87 Sport" may have had better brakes though, but the sport didn't have a moonroof.

Sounds like the secondary air injection pipe that blows air into the catalytic converter at certain RPMs & gears.

To tell what model it is, look in the FAQ for FC to see what options it has or doesn't have. This topic is covered in there.
