NEW GUY... 91rx7 needs work...
 

I just bought a 1991 rx7and it just wont start it was driven to the current location and parked for some time now it gets gas and fire but has a compression test of like 90-something psi (which I was told is low) --- one of my friends who is a mechanic told me it could possibly be the seals inside the rotary and to add some straight 30 weight oil (maybe 2 drops per plug hole) and it could refresh the seals for better compression, and possibly help start it up...

other than that all it needs is a shift surround console piece(the trim one), and the hood and roof repainted... and it also came with a rebuild kit but I have very little knowledge of rotary engines... I understand the theory and concept of them but hvae no idea how to rebuild them. is there a step by step guide on here or someone can direcdt me to? if you have any help feel free to also email me at Cptn_howdy1@yahoo.com

I was also wondering if theres an inexpensive turbo kit that can be added onto this anywhere for sale for after I get it going again...

Welcome to the club!

First off.... 90 psi is GOOD, could be better but definitely NOT low!!! But, if the mechanic didn't have a clue what to do with rotary's (most don't) you might want to get one again..... there are TWO rotors, with THREE faces each, meaning that you are looking for SIX compression numbers, even for each rotor.
The starting problem could be a number of things, you may want to be a little more specific in explaining your question. When you try to start it does it even turn over? It could just be flooded! Use the search tool to search for de-flooding techniques, and also for your turbo question. I'm assuming yours is N/A and in the most simple word "NO" there is no inexpensive turbo kit that can be added on, but it IS possible, once again.... SEARCH that topic has been covered too many times to count. Check the FAQ's too!

The acceptable compression varies with cranking rpm and altitude, but 90psi is just fine. If all the rotor faces are 90psi, then something else is wrong with the car.

If you want a turbocharged car, just get yours running, sell it, and buy a TurboII. That is the cheapest way to go turbo. Converting is about twice as expensive, but you can read about it in the FAQ for FC sticky. Keep in mind that even if you add a turbo to your current car, you still don't have the heavier clutch, transmission, driveshaft, differential, and halfshafts that come standard on the TurboII.

thanks for all the help man... I guess it could just be something different... and I already planned on upgrading the clutch, transmission, shaft, diff., and the half shafts. as well as try and add the turbo on... I have a friend who gets great deals on turbo kits I was just wondering if it would be cheaper to use a custom setup or if there was a complete kit... I need it for a DD until I get a 3rdcar to drive while redoing it all and if its not to cost effective I can always drop a nice 350 or 383 stroker in it and a TH350HD cause I have a few things like that laying around I just wanna try something different like a rotary engine, even though Im not big on imports I have loved the Rx7 since I saw it ...
