New to forums, and rotaries for the matter...

Hey,
To cut to the chase, I have come to own a 89 RX7. The problem is that it has not and engine or tranny. (was going to be project car, stipped down, but then parted out engine/tranny). So i have now adopted it as my own project car.

What should I know about roataries, and can some one PLEASE give me the facts in relation to the reliability of these engines.

The car has a straight body, interior needs new seats and carpeting, but doesnt stink and that major stuff. What should i really do with this car, I can spend around 9k, and hope to do the labor myself.

Are there any engines aside from the 13b? Do i Have to turbo to make good power? Is 250 N/A possible?

Thanks,
Jacob

PS - I didnt see a newbie section/ FAQ, so if this is all in vain and very old to you guys, I apologize.

Damn... 9k to spend... Im not up to date on what you can get in the US, but here in Aust that would get you a 13b mild port , 3mm seals, dowlled, after market ECU, TO4, and a front mount cooler = 300+HP and sum quick times down the 1/4 mile... oh... and sum second hand interior from a jap wrecker....

Sheesh, I thought 9k was rather modest, but i wouldnt that create some excessive turbo lag? I really want this to be more of a responsive, quick car. Not a drag demon. Or is that actually a small turbo?

I really dont know what im talking about, this turbo rotary bit is so new.

Check out some of the "mods lists" on the cars like the ones in the picture gallary.

Start with a TII motor, upgrade fuel pump, upgraded turbo, FMIC, larger fuel injectors, upgraded fuel rail, Haltech ECU, etc...

Definitly can make a 350 ft-lbs of torque beast if you do it right.

Don't worry about the search zombies, the search function usually works for shit. If it worked like Google or something, hell, I'd use it. I wish I had 9 Grand to spend :) Have fun, just be careful, and don't forget your fuel upgrades, detonation is SCARY!

Alright, im starting to get a feel for this.

Yea i used the search but nothing has really turned up...

Umm...What are these things capable of pulling in a g test... can they make 1?

Oh and i see some pics of 2nd gens with badass kits, but i cant find any...are they just in japan?

Thanks

For 250hp you definitely want a 13bt(turbo engine) and really want a series 5(89-91) engine. They make 200HP stock. You can buy a used one, known as a jspec from www.fc3s.org for a grand. Or you can try to find a blown one to have rebuilt for you. With the S5 engine all you really need is full intake, exhaust(downpipe/midpipe/catback), and enough fuel(haltech, larger injectors/pump, etc.) and you should be well above the 250 mark.
