New engine won't idle, and no oil in metering lines!
 

The new engine i just put in wont idle, and theres no oil in the metering lines.

What little oil DOES get in the lines runs BACKWARD into the pump when I rev the engine.

these are new OM lines
the pump checked good
there are no codes

vaccum hovers between 20 and 15.
(which is normal, right?!)

What are some of the things that would cause this?

20 and 15 what?

you should check your Oil injectors Maybe the valve inside is broken or the vacuum lines going to the injecors are broken. In either case this could cause a vacuum leak which would explain poor idling and if the injecotrs were bad there would not be proper amounts of oil going to them.

this is kind of a longshot but its the easiest to check so I would start there.

The last time I looked, the oil for the oil metering pump enters the front cover on the left hand side of the cover thru a 1/8 th inch hole and passes thru a passage in the front cover to feed the oil metering pump. Did you glue, paste, clog or otherwise stop up the oil metering pump supply on the left hand side of the front cover? Just a thought. Gotta go watch SUPER BIKES on Speedvision.

I know my 90 has vacuum lines to each of the oil injectors- check those!!

Uhhhhh......the VACUUM lines that go to the oil injectors do not pull a vacuum. They go from the oil injectors to a nipple on the throttle body, thru a passage in the throttle body to a quater inch hole IN FRONT of the throttle plates. Their function is NOT to pull a vacuum on the oil injectors. Its to equalize the air pressure on both sides of the injector and to supply fresh Filtered air that is going to be sucked into the combustion chamber. The suck comes From the injector, not the other way around. If the nipple on the top of the injector gets stopped up, it will SUCK OIL like a bandit from the metering oil pump. Thats why they say if they are not working, to carry a couple of extra quarts of oil in the car.

Hailers, where did you get this information? It may look like common sense to you (or not) but I have been wondering exactly how the oil injectors work and was under the assumption that they only worked under boost because inside the inj. is a one way valve. I have even gone as far as to cut them open.

Would you care to share your knowledge?

My knowledge starts with taking the *vacuum line* off the intake manifold and noticing that the VACUUM does not come from the throttle body, but from the SPIDER that the *VACUUM* lines that go on top of the oil injectors are attached to. I took the throttle body apart on both a N/A and a Turbo. If you do this you will find that that nipple that the spider is attached to, travels thru the throttle body and exits IN FRONT of the throttle plates i.e. the sucker aint pulling a vacuum. Its just supplying fresh filtered air to the spider and from there to the oil injectors. Sometime, whether your car is a n/a or a turbo, while idling, take that large *vacuum* line off the throttle body and feel with your finger where the vacuum is coming from. Like I said, it aint from the direction of the throttle body. Its coming FROM the oil injectors. Why is this so. I don't really know for 100 percent sure, but according to Six Rotors and Irv(KEITH), its to equalize the air pressure on both sides of the oil injector. If that was not the case, then the rotor in the engine would SUCK big time the oil out of the 0mp and you'd be refilling the oil on a daily basis. So you see, I really don't know why, but I do know that there is NO VACUUM coming from the direction of the throttle body to the oil injectors. Just a little more....The *VACUUM* line just below the one for the oil injectors on the throttle body, is also one that does not suck from the direction of the throttle body. It also is directing fresh filtered air. This time to the AIR BLEEDS for the primary fuel injectors. All nipples are not suckers is the lesson. And again, I don't know for SURE how the oil injectors work. Just remember a tad of what IRV and Six Rotors have written. You might ask them. Irv's real good on theory. NZCONVERTIBLE, WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HOW THE OIL INJECTORS WORK? OH. By the way, I have taken oil injectors apart. That one way check valve is nothing more than a flimsy piece of rubber that looks like a poppet valve. Its shaft stops up the nipple when pressure is applied from the rotor direction.
