New engine problems Need help!!

I have a 91 Na. I bought an engine with 3000 miles on it. I've been doin all the work myslef. This is my first engine transplant. So i was preatty much goin by the Hayes manual. I got it all in and just about everything hooked up there was one electrical connection i couldnt get and one vacume line. The electrcal is on the wireing harness rite next to the secondary injector connections. It is a black round harness. Nehow i tried to turn it over for the first time today and no luck wich i had planned on happening. When i turn the key there is a click a winding noise and then it fades out real quick. Almost like an electrical short or somthin. Also i had a leak rite at the thermostat. Where the hose from the radiator goes into the engine. I put a different thermostat in but havent had ne changes. Can anyone help my out maybe tell me what im doin wrong? Will it help if i go to my local mechanic and have him run an diagnostics check?

The click and winding noise sounds like a starter problem my starter did the same thing, check the connections on it, I ended up having to replace my starter.

you have to make sure you have a gasket *on* (around) your thermostat I think. It's a little rubber circle that goes around it and seals it. At least it did on mine. I tried RTV silicone on the radiator neck and it didn't help any without the circle gasket.

As for that connection, I think I know what you're talking about. It's right next to ANOTHER connection that I think is green. The black one only has one wire going to it, and it's round like. I would guess it's necessary, figure out a way to connect it up. It's connected on my '90 TurboII. If you need to, find the connector on a bad wiring harness, and cut the wire off of it, about 6" away from the black connector itself (on the wiring harness side). Then solder it into your new wiring harness, and you're good to go.

I have the connector on the wireinh harness. I dont kno what i connects to. Thats my problem. And i fixed the leak with a gasket. I think it mite be the stater, but the starter wored fine before i took out my old engine and its the same stater. I tried it again and i got the click then the engine cranked a lil bit i kno cuz the fan moved and all the belts. But then it just stoped and started clicking again.

i got it runing!! Yest. it turne over. The only thing now is that it is missing around 2500-3000 rpm. Is it normal for a practically new engine (3000miles) to run so roughly? I has sat for quite while tho about 6 months.
