new and completely lost

hey everyone, im so so new to this. some one is giving me an engine out of an 87 convertable. Im buying myself an engineless 87 body. how hard is the swap? and can anyone give me the intercgangeablilty ( is that spelt right) of trannys. As far as i know the engine is a 13b and the empty body is a GXL model. this is sad i can rebuild a V8 in my sleep but im in new territory now i guess.

Are u getting the tranny from the vert too? The swap shouldn't be hard at all since you are going from an S4 NA to another S4 NA.

yeah everything should be pretty much plug a play, unless you got a blown or seized engine, btw, if, like you said, your new to 7's, how are you sure the engine your buying is blown or seized, hope your buying from a really trust worthy friend.

The car im pulling the engine from is a wrecked vert. my best friend just bought an 86 and one day some guy hands him over a wrecked 87 vert. So tonight i pulled the belts off and it turns over. the engine and tran only have 91k on them and im every other day pulling things off the car to sell on ebay. Anywho these sensors are blowing my mind i does anyone have any advice

Get some help and a manual. Or download a manual. The vert would be an 88 as well, not an 87. 88 was the first year of the vert. The engine should be almost a straigt swap. Make sure you get the correct impedance injectors on the engine.

Just unplug the engine harness from the ECU and the two plugs behind the dash. Then you just pull the motor all one peice and drop it in the other car. Then just plug the ecu and connectors back in. Done deal.

Haynes sucks for this car... honestly... sucks ass.

Anyway, get the FSM from www.ilovemyrx7.com or buy it... I'm going to buy one someday here... just because I hate having to go between my computer and my garage. bleh.

Good luck though.

... I like Hayne's personally ... Maybe if I had all the tools the Mazda mechanics do...

I have some online versions of the FSMs, you just need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader. Check my sig for the link.

[edit]
I've even mirrored the reader on there. It's under the "acrobat reader" directory. :)
