new clutch breakin period?
 

Just wondering, when i get my new clutch in, will I have to go easy on it at first or hard, or what to get it to seat? Also, I'm just going to get the clutch disc, not the whole kit(basically im not getting a new pressure plate). Is there anything wrong with using the old pressure plate? I'll be getting new pilot and throwout bearings too.

I think the breakin period for the clutch is 700miles i'd wait about 1000miles before tearin it up :D

are you changing it yourself? if so that pilot bearing is a bitch to get out unless you have the mazda tool. i had to cut mine w/ a torch to get it out(i know that it was a terrible thing to do but it was the last shot). break in for a clutch varies though depending on how you drive and if its city/highway or whatever. try to just take it easy for the first few hundred miles though

it depends. It's usually 500 miles (but if 400 of those are on the highway it really isn't broken in).

1k miles just to be safe. :)

Hmmmm... yes i'm doing it myself, should i get the mazda tool? If its pricey, i'd just assume tear it out with brute force or whatever. Thanks for the tips! :D

Mazdatrix has one that attach's to the end of a slide hammer (the kind you pull dents out with). $75
They'll sell you the whole set up slide hammer included for about $125.

They say they've tried all types of tools, this works best.

Alternativley, I bought one from Kragen (Checker/Schuks depending on where you are) made by Powerbuilt that worked pretty good with a bit of set up. Screw pull out design. Cost me about $50. You can also simply rent it from them for a nominal fee.

Shade tree method is to use a screw driver and scrap out the roller bearings. Then, put a small screwdriver, Awl, or Ice Pick at the edge between the bearing wall and the flywheel shaft and pound it in, caveing it in from the side. Then simply pull it out with a pair of needle nose. But, I'm too scared of scaring the inner shaft wall to do this. But if your careful, it works.

This is something I could never understand!
What is there to break in?

Also, how am I supposed to "break in" my clutch when all I use my car for is a race car?
