Need some info for trailing coil
 

I Have a 1988 turbo That needs a coil, will a coil from a non-turbo rx7 work or do I have to look for one that came out of a turbo rx7. Thx

all FCs used the same coils from 1986 through 1991.

Thanks for the info , But now that I've been reading some of posts on this site I believe that the coil might not be the problem. All my gauges went out about six months ago,except for speedometer but the car ran fine. A couple of weeks ago while I was driving the car would seem to loose power or bog down for a second and the catch again.then a few times it stalled while driving ,it would start back up after cranking a few times.the last time it stalled On me it would start for a couple of seconds and then shut off ,I had to get towed home.it is not flooded and I also replaced the plugs Because I had them home I was planning on replacing them before this happend ,I don't think I have any spark now the engine just cranks , I can hear the fuel pump with the ignition on so I don't know what the problem could be .

sounds like multiple problems, such as a failing trailing coil and possibly a fuel problem.

the car does have fuel i assume..

Your gauges minus the speedometer is powered by the Meter fuse.

Have you actually checked for spark? Also check the EGI INJ fuse in the engine fusebox. If the B/Y wires at either coil have voltage (12 volts) w/key to on then this fuse is good.

true, i only read the tach stopped working. if all the gauges died then it is probably a similar situation to the other thread posted today.

the meter fuse usually doesn't pop for no reason so it sounds like a short in that circuit along with a secondary problem which is why the car stalled. could be simply a vacuum hose got knocked off or something more in depth. without a working fuel gauge i would start by putting 5 gallons of gas in... regardless if you think it has gas in it, someone could have siphoned it out, drained it or you just didn't monitor it well enough.

I am not mechanically inclined ,I took battery cables and connected one end to a plug and the other end of the cable to the battery negative and had someone crank the car I did not see any spark ,i am going to check the egi inj fuse like u said .

I did add fuel to it just to be sure because when my gauges first went out I ran out off gas a couple of times I forgot to check my trip meter mileage , I wonder could the fuel filter be one of The problems .

Never heard of that but...

Pull a boot off of the coil and place the boot resting up against the coil bore leaving a fraction of an inch between the two and turn the engine over and you would see spark if the coil was working.

Yeah your right I should have said it ran but not right I guess that's what led to all of these other problems.
