need some help ..estimates and such.

im lookin to convert my 89 gtu to a tII. i know the ligistics of it and what i need im just lookin to guys who have done this cause i wanna know about how much u spent on the total conversion and each part roughly, with installation too. i tried searching but i wasnt finding what i was looking for...i just wanna make a good reliable TII with ...whatever the cost.

Never did one, but let's say @ $2500/$3000 doing it yourself. Need engine, trans, ($1300) driveshaft (75), differential, axles (250), probably new clutch assembly (300), starter, slave cyl (50), wiring harness, ecu (200), pressure sensor(50), afm(50), hood(200), unless you go front mount, fuel pump (90), exhaust system(400) of some short. Probably something I'm missing. Personally, I feel you're better off finding a TII and update that one rather then converting, unless you have a convertible You might be able to find a TII that needs work, snatch that one up and you'll have all the parts to use. Depending on the engine/trans you're buying, if used, not rebuilt, I consider it a little risky as these cars are 14/16 years old. Both may need a rebuild.
Some will say buy a low compression one cheap and do a rebuild. No matter which way you go, it's not cheap and not without headaches.

i was either looking into buying a 93 mr2 or going through this process....ive looked for a TII for sooo long and ive never even found one that still runs...i really dont ewanna leave the 7's for an mr2 but i mite go that direction ...

Just Buy a TII........ and Keep the GTU for a daily Driver... I'm about to buy the 89 GTU i sold when i bought the TII back!!!!!! Just to have a driver that I don't need to constantly be pissing with!!

You can find a TII parts car for cheap if you look closely. I found one with a shoddy interior and exterior, but for $750 bucks it'll supply me with a driveline, brakes, tires and rim (enkei's ;). And everything I'de ever want for a TII swap and even some parts if ever needed. The only thing Im paying to have done is a J-spec engine to be rebuilt immedaitly, you may not always need this but imho is the best route to go for reliability. Do a search of TII swap prices, I had it bookmarked on my laptop somewhere. So I'm sure its readily available to be found by the search button.

I hope that helps ;o.

it cost me about 1200 for the swap just the engine and parts needed, no tranny. and toke me about 3-4 hours to take old engine and 2 hours to put j-spec in and about 3 hours to wire everything and set it up. just a weekend.
