need some advice on waterpump
sources for waterpumps that i've looked at are mazdatrix, atkins rotary, and victoria british. they are pretty much the same thing with exception to price right. im on a budget and have a messed up pulley on mine, making my car wacked.
since i rebuilt the motor earlier this year, i figure i'd install a new waterpump but i don't know where to buy one. i opened and pieced out a spare i had. the insides aren't complex. can i get away with using a spare or get a new one and where? victoria british has the cheapest price. oh, and my housing looks fine since its all cleaned and painted from my rebuild. it should be easier to just get the pump itself right? |
well i still have a few spare ones lying around if you want one but no guarantees since it would be free. :p:
when i needed a water pump in a hurry and didn't have any spares i just picked one up from Kragen, been doing fine for a year and 20k miles, knock on aluminum.... |
hey ben, i'll just slap on a spare of yours then. mine's old but it still worked so it should be ok. if it does go out, then i'll just pick one up.
i should be back after this week....FINALS then school will be out. i'll give you a call. thanks. |
get one at kragen like the guy said above me!!!! it comes with warranty.. and if your crap breaks, youre waterpumper is in their computer memory base.. so you dont need a reciept
chp bum |
thanks for the info.

Word... We got Schucks up here, but it's the same as Kragens. Cardone is the brand I bought there. One thing to note, for some reason after installing it, the pulley barely scraped on the WP after I bolted it on? Might've been a few burrs on the front face of the WP, but it's fine now (although there's still only about 1mm. of clearance).
It was kind of a scare at first because I thought it was the WP scraping on the inside of the housing. Edit: This reminds me, I should go return my old WP and get a "core" refund... |
yep thanks guys. i decided to go with a cardone from kragen. not too expensive (not as much as i thought anyway). ran into some problems while changing it...kinda stupid but problems nonetheless. i broke a bolt (top left one) while putting the final torque on. took me a day to figure out how to get the broken bolt out. i broke a die drill thing trying to get it out as well as a drill bit. at the end, all it took was a flat and a hammer.
i also noticed a pin hole on my lower radiator hose so im getting one tomorrow (had to order it). i forgot about the core refund... |
Water pumps from the Mazda dealer should be all brand new.
Some of the "cheap" ones from the auto parts stores are "rebuild". Good cores are used and all they do is swap the water pump bearing and seal - the housing is sand / bead blasted for the "new" look. This is why they are cheap - they are just rebuilt with a couple parts. -Ted |
I got mine new from Dan Atkins for like $50 bucks.
