Need Response From Knowitalls Fast!

My engine is apart at the rotary specialist, he told me that i should buy new apex seals if I want them to last on a large streetported engine. What apex seals are the cheapest/best seals for the job? I need a quick response so I can order overnighter today and get it tommorow

hehehe, which apex seals are the cheapest/best seals :) if they were the cheapest, they would not be the best, if they were the best, they sure hell wont me the cheapest.

my suggestion, check out rotary aviation 2mm seals

OE seals are very very good seals.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 04-21-04 01:05 PM

how about atkins? Are they any good? Those are the ones I ordered because I heard they were pretty strong.

Agreed!

I don't believe there's any advantage of Atkins seals over OE seals, other then the fact that they break in faster.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 04-21-04 02:59 PM

but are there any DISadvantages vs. the oem seals?

Aaron Cake 04-21-04 03:08 PM

Presumably, they don't have the R&D that the OE seals have. I haven't heard any specific complaints about Atkins seals that I don't hear about other companie's seals....I have a fresh set of Atkins 2 piece 2MM sitting on the bench for my engine.

according to the latest issue of RX Tuner Adkins makes the best apex seals because they heat treat them. You did good.

Aaron Cake 04-21-04 03:42 PM

Well, Mazda hardens the leading edge of their seals as well, so there. ;)

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 04-21-04 06:20 PM

Hmm......both good points, how long is the breaking-in period on the atkins spex Aaron?

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 04-22-04 10:52 AM

anyone?

Aaron Cake 04-22-04 10:57 AM

Don't know the exact time frame since the engine isn't built yet.

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 04-22-04 10:59 AM

oh, well my engine is being put together as we speak (the atkins apex look great!) and I will be drving it easily for about 600 miles or so.

MONKEYBONE 04-22-04 11:18 AM

I just put Atkins in my street port rebuild and I've got 500 miles on them so far. It didnt take very many miles for the seals to break in to the housings for optimum compression. My builder is very pleased with the compression numbers and he is going to put them in his rebuild this weekend. I also went with Atkins oil seals and 3rd gen corner seal springs. My 2cents

MazdaRx7Racer4Life 04-24-04 01:38 AM

I went with oem oil seals and 3rd gen coner seals. My atkins seals just went in today and the fitment was great! Tomorrow we are going to finish my rebuild and test it all out.
