Need a quick answer

Ok, just got a call from my mechanic saying it's gonna cost a few hundred to replace my cam sensor. Doesn't seem like a piece that I've heard of, so I was wondering if it exists and how much they really cost. I thought he meant the cam follower, maybe it was out of adjustment.... but no. He said it's a few hundred for the part and a couple hundred for labor. I told him to order it, and now I'm trying to find out all the info I can before I go tell him he's bullshitting me. Any help? Please? Thanks

I think your mech man meant a Crank Sensor.....not Cam....Rotors have no Cams....Piston engines do

Hope this helps

If it is the crank angle sensor, a couple hundred for labor seems high. Don't know what his rate is, but @ $50/hr that's 4 hours.

The crank angle sensor is right up front. Not much disassembly required, although I don't know the specifics of your engine bay. I could probably do the job in 15 mintues or less on my race car.

Does this mechanic of yours even know that the car has a rotary engine? Last time I checked, we don't have cams:D

Sorry, but whats wrong with your car? If he said cam sensor than either he has no knowledge of rotary engines, or hes just used to saying that to customers! :D

I guess the guy was just used to piston engines, and got a little confused. I went there and asked him to show me my "cam sensor" and he pointed to my Crank Angle Sensor. Replaced that at about $450 for parts and $200 for labor. I think that's pretty rediculous, but I couldn't really complain about it. I also had tires mounted, balanced, and an alignment, plus a charging system check before winter. So basically I just took it with a sandpaper condom and drove home. thanks for the input
