Need help w/ heater hose
 
My heater hose started to leak.It had a hole in it. So I decided to take the hose out, but the hose connected to the firewall has been giving me problems. It won't come off. I'm wondering, is it suppose to come off? The hose connected just below the oil filter caused me no problems to take out, but the side on the firewall is.

Cut it off.

Just get a razor blade and cut vertically down the area where the hose connects to the firewall nipple. Try not to cut too deep.

That nipple connects to your heater core. If you damage it, you are in for a world of pain since you will need to replace the core...

And is this normal, for the hose to be stuck and/or hard to take out?

Mine was stuck. It just rots over time. I just cut mine like aaron cake said and went to autozone, picked up some heater hose and that was all. I actually just ended up bypassing the heater core since i dont drive the car when its that cold out.

i just used a screw driver to help push the hose off...it sbeen on there for 20 years probably..so i would expect it to be a pain to get off...cutting is a good idea since your replacing it anyways

oh yeah...if you take the top mount IC (if u have one) off u can get to it much easier

They always get stuck. The rubber becomes hard and then welds onto the nipple. You can yank all you want on the engine side, but the heater core side is very delicate. Just cut it...You're going to be replacing the hose and clamps anyway so what do you have to loose? :)

RESSURECTION!! HUHZZAAHHH!!!


I'm replacing my heater hose too, but it's my first time. It's pretty swollen up at the clamp. Am I able to just pull and plug this hose or do I have to drain the coolant? When I searched the heater hoses seems to be strongly connected to coolant, so I'm guessing I cannot pull it without draining all the coolant. Also, can I reuse the clamps?
