Need help with storing motor parts

So I, like many of you, have some motor parts laying around. I looked at them again the other day + they're starting to rust! I want to use them with another motor build, but that won't be for a while.

So I've moved them indoors. I did spray some WD40 on them before I got them, but obviously that hasn't helped much. What should I do to keep them rust free?

I would suggest vacuum bagging them to remove as much air as possible. If that's not an option oil them down with motor oil and put them in big zip lock bags and remove as much air as possible.

It takes air to make rust.

Maybe a light coat of WD-40 as well.

first thing first is make sure its bone dry, as in "no water" on them anywhere.

then Rub some oil over it.

store it in a sealed bag.

and forget it.

Vaseline and put in a Ziplock bag. Things like eccentric shafts will aggressively rust, so I generally won't clean an eccentric shaft until I am about to put it in an engine.

as said, you want to keep the parts away from air and water, so they need to be lubricated and either placed in plastic or kept in a place that has minimum humidity.
