Need help to put argument to my parents!!!

This is what is happening, my car is in the shop, for the past week it has because my parents want it to be "safe", theyve been working on the winshield wipers, they said the motor was dead, so then they fixed it, then they said the motor died on them when they put the new bars on them, so then they installed a new motor on it today

now this is the thing that is pissing me off, theyre saying that something is smoking and is draining a battery, my guess is that its a grounding problem

again i could be wrong but theyre charging 500 for a new motor and windshield wiper bars, im saying theyre being ripped off!!! someone please help get my 7 out of the shop!!!!

what could be the reason its draining the battery besides a ground problem?

and yes i have searched

KingCobraV9 01-28-05 03:30 PM

strange hummm ive never had this happen at all but smoking means an electrical fire so thats never good

onePOINTthree 01-28-05 03:31 PM

i bet money the wiper relay died, and $500 sounds about right if it took them a long ass time to diagnois it. Most places charge like $80/hr

ilike2eatricers 01-28-05 03:36 PM

If the wiper motor isnt connected it shouldnt be draining the battery. If anything I would look into the headlight motors. Is the alternator even charging?

zeromage428 01-28-05 03:38 PM

theyre being so ripped off, im thinking about just going to the place n taking my car tonight!!! they cant say shit cuz its my fucking car, what the hell, they said that it was some problem with an ignition switch, and it wont be in until monday, that doesnt mean that something else wont happen
why cant they let me have my car, so i can work on it, and learn on my own
i hate being without a car to drive ergh

onePOINTthree 01-28-05 03:44 PM

ok, dont take it to a shop if you want to work on it. the point of diagnosis on cars that come into a shop is so they can find every problem and fix it so they can make more money. that is one of the first things we learned, find and fix every problem becasue you get more money

oh and btw if you want your car, call them as ask for it, dont come in and yell at them even tho your mad, it wont solve anything

be patient,
let them fix what need to be fixed, My son felt the same way and would drive a unsafe car instead of wait, many times he was in such a rush to drive his car that more was messed up by driving it. Electrical problems turn into electrical fires. as for "just going to get your car" yes they have to let you have it AFTER you pay the bill and if you take it when they have something apart then they no longer have any liability.
Be patient

ugh, coming from a parent thats into the 7, i have to take your advice mehhhh
i guess they better fix everything they find, so i dont have to pay for it

fcrx88 01-28-05 05:24 PM

ya i cant see what there is to complain about if youre not paying for it. take the bus for a couple days. or walk. thats why i have my bike and my beater car for those notorios days when the 7 wont start.

Hey where are you at in Fla.
Check the SE forum on this site
archives to find the good rx7
shops in fla. They will know the
rx7 a lot better than most mechanichs
and fix the problem faster meaning
less labor and money.

P.S.
Your parents get smarter the older you get. you will be suprised how smart the have become when you turn 30.

therotaryrocket 01-28-05 08:37 PM

not everyones parents are the same. why do you need to replace the wiper motor, i've heard most of the time when the wipers only work on low then the switch either needs rebuilt or replace, and wiper motors cost a lot so $500 sounds right. If you have a Haynes manual it describes how to diagnose an electrical drain on the battery with the ignition off.

I've never seen a windshield wiper motor burn out.
It's most likely the wiper switch.

I dunno what they are doing to cause a short, but if the car didn't have it before, they caused it.

it'd be funnier than hell if it was just the wiper switch all this time.

beamer242 01-29-05 03:29 AM

if it works on low i would just aquapel the window and drive thats not unsafe if you do it right. also just from what i read not from what i know from experience i would say its the switch.

The inside joke is that they smoke and catch on fire at random.... :)

Sounds like the mechanic doesn't know what he's doing. Take it to someone with a good reputation.
