Need help with the installation of FMIC
Whats up everyone. I am installing my FMIC today. I have already installed all my pipes with the intercooler. What i need help with is that I have an upgrade turbo kit from greddy also. When i ordered my intercooler i told them that i had the upgraded turbo. I am having problems with the pipe from turbo meeting the pipe going to the intercooler. I am not sure if i have different parts or if I am doing something wrong. I was wondering if anyone has this setup and would be kind enough of posting a pic for me. I would really appreciate it. Thanks againg guys.

What kind of problem are you having? Is this the Greddy IC kit? If so, be ready for cooling problems...

I also have the stock fan/shroud with a Greddy FMIC and have no cooling problems.

Do you have an aftermarket water temp gauge? Just wondering, because the stock gauge probably wont even move with a 20* temp increase, so if you are just going by that, you are not really able to tell anything. I have the Greddy FMIC kit, and while my car isnt up and running yet, Im taking extra precautions because of alot of people reporting problems with coolant temps. As for the original poster's question, you may need to do some modification of the pipe that runs to the turbo, to make it fit a turbo other than stock. I know my aftermarket turbo sits further forward, so I needed to cut the pipe a few inches, and re-weld the elbow on. |
You won't notice these problems unless you have an aftermarket water temp guage and oil temp gauge....

My OEM gauge is in fine working order. Just before the new motor went in and the old one died, it started to overheat so I know it has full range of movement and is working like it should be. I understand what you guys are saying, but I don't think there is anything to actually WORRY about until the OEM gauge gets into a bad territory. 1/2 way on the stock gauge is WAY too hot and my car always operates at 1/4. I know warmer coolant temps are undesireable, but I don't think there is any damage that can be done.

I am using the Microtech DASH to monitor coolant temps. Mine hang right around 90deg.

Oil temps...Sorry, I should have been more clear. Water temps should stay around 90, but oil temps will skyrocket to 210 or so (up from 180).

when guys seem to be getting in trouble with the FMIC is when they have uprgaded turbos and ported motors with e-fans..... My FMIC isn't quite as big as the greedy, it doesn't completely block the front end, however, with my mods, I'm already working on the pipe routing for a secondary oil cooler for the car. I've also noted that a lot of the guys with the overheating probs also don't have any heat shrouds over their turbos.... |
Stock turbo, mild streetport, stock fan and shroud. I'll never know why people take off the stock fan and go to an e-fan. Most e-fan's will NOT cool as well as the stock fan and are not shrouded. Plus, it taxes the FC's already terrible charging system. No benefits other than a cleaner engine bay.

You might be having trouble fitting the pipe because of the greddy kit that you bought. There is a vspl and rspl. The RSPL is made for the greddy turbo kit. I'm guessing you have the vspl.
