Need Help And Info, $$money$$ Is Not An Issue!!

Alright, here we go!

I have an 86 NA and Im looking to put some mad money into it!

I was thinking motor swap! Now im the kind of person that hates used products, unless I know for a fact that it has been taken care of. What I really want is a race built turbo motor and a race built transmission.

Any suggestions where i can purchase such a setup???? Or rather, anyone willing to build one for me?..... Also what kind of set up should I get? What are the best combinations for maximum horse power and maximum reliability...

What other parts am I expecting to change? need an LSD? fuel, intake?? what should I go with?

Im open to all opinions and and price line, im looking to build a fast street car.... I will start with performance then move to suspension then body and interior.....

POST AWAY! LETS SEE HOW CRAZY INSANE I CAN MAKE MY FC

you dont need to be twats about it, I know wankles are not reliable, but i want it to be built as tough as possible. And I have an LT1 in my impala so I dont need an LS1, and why would I ruin my rx-7 with pistons. If yopu arn`t knowledgable to tell me what parts work well together then dont post! Im posting this thread for people to help me figure out where to go with this ride, not to get bashed by cocky SOB`s. And just so you know, I`ve probably done more mechanics than 99% of the posters on this site, mind you it is heavy diesel mechs so there is quite a difference. Thanks

It is because if you really want it as tough as possible, then stick to the stock setup, or a minor street port.

You seem to be asking for a lot of power and a lot of reliability. You need to pick one, because you can't have both.

And without knowing what model you have (besides that it is a 86 non turbo- all 80,000 1986 models sold in North America were non turbo)... it would be impossible to say of you need parts or what.

So if money really is no object, Ted is right... go buy a nice expensive sports car. I suggest the BMW M3 or the Mercedes C63...

But posting up a dreaming thread is not going to get you any help... I doubt many people are willing to spend $50,000 on a $2000 car.

So what is your budget and what are you really trying to do and what model do you have?

And talking shit about other members here is a sure way to get flamed and no help what so ever.

20B, peripheral port, and twin turbo. 26B if you can find someone to make you one. Money is no object, right?

Thank you! I will say im willing to invest 8 grand right now, another 8 in a few months.... I want her ready by spring... and im looking for about 300hp, Anyone know where I can get a race built motor?

freemanrx7 08-28-08 01:08 PM

You would be better off selling the 7 and buying a turbo model. Unless your car is tricked out and all it needs is a turbo drivetrain. Try searching turbo swap and it should pull up some threads on this subject.

a true race built motor is not practical for the street and not reliable for everyday street use. Some people have used Peripheral Port race engines on the street, but they are not very practical, get poor gas mileage and are pretty useless under 3000-4000 RPM.

I think you are confusing pistons with rotary engines.

Technically all rotary engines are "race built". So again you need to define what you really want to do.

if you are looking at only $8000 (and I am assuming that is Canadian dollars) then you are very very limited and probably looking at getting a 1987-1991 Jspec motor, rebuilding it and installing it with a Turbo drive train. Then if you have money left over, (which you may or may not depended on how much work you can do yourself) then you would look at a standalone ECU such as a Haltech or Microtec and a upgraded turbo and injectors.

The other option would be buying a used 20B now, rebuilding it. I don't know the exchange rate for canada to US dollars right now, but that would probably blow your first $8k, then when you get the rest of the money, buy a ECU and all the parts to install it.

ItsFun 08-28-08 01:18 PM

good some answers!! okay so it looks like I should go in the direction of making it a more reliable street car than a fully race built, cuz I do want to use it to cruise in dwtn MTL... Is there anyone out there willing to share what setupup they have on their ride and the resuts it gave them? good or bad!

TongassT 08-28-08 01:20 PM

Edit: Didn't read all the posts.

So, cruise or race. What exactly do you want to do? If you want clear answers you need to give us what you want, how much you want to spend, your mechanical ability, ect. Trying to go cruisin' with a heavily ported motor is not very fun.

That's it? 8 grand is not going to get you a "race" prepped rx7. So much for unlimited funds.

I gave a rough estimate of what I know I can spend right now on it, I only have 8g pocket change right now, im sorry, but money grows fast.

NAFC3S 08-28-08 01:26 PM

If money is not a issue then why the hell do you have a S4 FC?!?!?!? Why not get a FD

island-fc 08-28-08 01:28 PM

buy the street ported motor off of pineappleracing.com its like 4 grand and would be a decent powerplant to start off with

lamborghini Reventon

srry i had too.

as for making a nice 300HP car Icemark is right. now if you want you could try and do a 13B-REW swap but there realy isn't a point if you only want 300RWHP. jamin if you look at this post your setup im sure it will excide his needs and leave him with money for brake, suspention, interior, and body.( in that order please.)

Ok well I want something I can drive in comfortably, from the answers ive been given it seems I should go with a JDM or Jspec motor. I will then either have it rebuilt or rebuild it myself and likely get a Greddy turbo. thast should give me
300hp, thats all i need. Now my next question is what stock parts can handle the 300hp and which ones cant!
Do i need a trans sway or will a flywheel change work? Can my diff support this? Driveshaft? I wouldnèt think so....

need RX7 08-28-08 02:24 PM

I'd go for a 20B. It would probably be more than $8k at first, but it would be worth it since it can make more power with less work and will therefore be more reliable. I'd do a stock 20B, stock twins running non-sequential and a Haltech. With intake and exhaust and a good professional tune, it'd be good for 300 hp and would be pretty tame and reliable.

SouthSideSlider 08-28-08 02:33 PM

you need a T2 drivetrain the T2 clutch can handle up to 400hp from what i hear but if you get a jpsec motor chances are it will come with a decint clutch.

blackedoutFC3S 08-28-08 02:37 PM

20B all the way, if you have that kind of money dont resist it specially if you get it ported

There are quite a few Turbos for the FC, and rotary motors... I wouldn't limit myself to one brand that sells stuff it doesn't always make.

If you have a 86 non turbo (and probably a 4 lug one since you are in Canada and you still have not said what model you have), then you will be replacing every thing.

The brakes, the wheels, the transmission, the flywheel the clutch, the clutch slave, the transmission mounts, the driveshaft, the half shafts, the rear end, the ECU, the engine harness, possibly the dash harness, the AFM, the boost sensor, the air pressure sensor, the cruise control servo, probably the springs and shocks, etc.

You could probably half ass it for less, but you did say money is no issue.

and the fact that you are asking this suggests that you are way over your head and have not done any research at all and probably don't really have the money. You should be reading the FAQ for FC sticky thread as well as doing some real research.
