Need help with clutch diagnosis
 

Clutch pedal dropped to the floor on me today. I was able to lift it up with my toe and had clutch again for a couple of shifts, but then it went back down to stay. Pulled over and took a look. No visible leaks at master, slave, connectors or anywhere along the line. Fluid reservoir was full(a little crusty lookin, but full). Only thing i can see that may be a problem is the o ring under the reservoir cap is in small pcs. With the cap off and the clutch pushed in, the fluid in the reservoir moves a little, but doesn't bubble or spray. Buttoned everything up, started her in 1st and RPM shifted my way home. I'm thinking I need to pull the master cylinder a do an 18 dollar rebuild. Only other thing I can think of would be the shift fork, but it seems like something like that would just go out all at once, instead of giving me a few shifts warning. So guys/girls. Any better ideas?

Rebuild both the master and slave, both kits combined cost less than $25 at your local auto parts store...Couple hour job tops...

Hey Asuka... I just replaced the clutch on my 88 convertible. I had the same problem that youre having. The clutch pedal, would at times, fail to return to its correct position forcing me to pull it up via foot...lol... When I dropped the tranny I pulled upart the clutch master cylinder; very easy to do... I inspected all of the parts and noticed a film or deposit on the very inside end of the cylinder wall. I assumed that it was from the natural break-down of the rubber plunger/piston. I gave it a very good scrubbing with a terry cloth and cleaner. I washed off all of the parts, dried them off, applied fresh brake fluid to them and reassembled everything. After replacing the clutch, I purged the system and found the clutch to be twice as responsive. Good luck in your endeavours...
