NEED HELP, Car has lost its ass.... SLOW exceleration!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so within the past 4 weeks, i have worked on 2 things before having this issue. Im not sure they are related to why the car wont accelerate, but ill throw it up here for the smarter people just in case. 1st, went to Home depot, rigged up 5th/6th port deal (cat delete pipe). 2nd, wired in Electric fan from FDD.

Weds i was leaving work and as i got to the train tracks i heard a loud pop. Thought i ran over something? Got home (car ran fine). Got in the car a lil later and the car started and idled fine. 2 blocks later im on the side of the road trying to figure out why its stalling when i lift and spitting and sputtering when i accelerate. This is when i found out the alt was bad and the battery was low. Fixed all that weds night. Test drive proved that the car did not run any better, but wasnt running off the battery anymore.

Thurs, milked car to work. after work bought DVM and followed instructions to reset the tps. Previously the car would stall out (rpm drop) unless the clutch was engaged. After properly setting the tps with the dvm, the idle is calm and peaceful... just under 7. CAR STILL WONT ACCELERATE!

When you get on the throttle, it hesitates in 1st, then kicks in and feels like its pulsing. 2nd has a lil pull / pulsing action as does 3rd. 4th and 5th... might as well be driving a geo, i can mat the pedal to the floor and it wont pickup any faster than pressing the pedal 1/4 of the way down?

Voltage on the tps read 1.01 - 1.03 (couldnt get it to stay at 1). Also... the car sounds diff now although i cant explain it... and sometimes i think i smell something, but i can never find anything burning, theres no smoke from the engine bay or exhaust... I cant figure it out?

Also... i originally thought there may have been a vaccum leak when the car was idling erracticly and shutting off at lights. There was a hiss coming from the MAF/ upper rad hose area. i havent been able to find the hiss, but i did take the intake hoses off the MAF and check the spring in the door. seems to be working. Radiator is Koyo, bout 5 months old, if it makes a diff?

Nobody has experienced this?

What series car do you have for one. If you disabled your 6 Port induction system then it would definitely feel slower up top. I say hook it back up like it was before you switched stuff and see if the problem still happens if not then trouble shoot from there.

I haven't, but I know what I would be doing if I were in your place; identify what systems are involved in your problem and start troubleshooting them, one at a time. Keep in mind that your low power and pulsing may each be separate, unrelated issues. I can't speak for all FC owners, but the 7s that I've had seemed to have hard-ons for more than one thing going wrong at once with no apparent common cause. There is such a thing as coincidence. :)

Spark
Fuel
Air
Compression

If you search you will find a *shitload* of threads with instructions for basic troubleshooting in all 4 of those areas. That's probably part of the reason no one's replied in any detail yet - they get tired of typing the same shit out over and over. It's not personal. :)

the port actuators are re connected. did check the intake, tps, everything i could think of....
Turns out it was something in the damn fan? started working backwards after i ran out of things i could check, and once i removed the electric fan the car went right back to being normal. So im gonna send the fan, and all the relays back to FF dynamics and see what they say?

Amur_ 01-29-10 10:39 PM

That's really odd. All an e-fan ultimately needs is a power and a ground wire. I'd guess either their wiring instructions were wrong or you made a mistake or two when you wired it up.

I just looked at their website and it reads like bad copy from QVC. I'd be inclined to ask for my money back rather than continue to do business with them. Have you looked into instead using an e-fan from another car?

No i havent, but i will. Right now im running the stock fan again, and not having any issues, until today. It appears that i may have a faulty ground somewhere....

yesir but when i took it out it seemed fine  but im 100% sure thats what it was

1. Excessive backpressure (clogged exhaust, cat). Check with 02 sensor removed (hole provides an exit for exhaust). If the problem is backpressure, it will go away.
2. Pull codes
3. Check for closed loop operation
4. Get to the ECU and connectors; backprobe the pins and check voltages against those in the manual. If there is a bad sensor, it will likely show up as an out of spec voltage on that pin
5. Check compression
6. Check for spark on all 4 plugs
7. Timing and advance
