I need someone to do something for me and tell me the results. I need you to get a pair of vicegrips and a phillips screwdriver and go to your hatch and lift up the rear carpet. Uner the carpet and the sound matting there's two aluminum panels that are screwed down. Remove the screws on the driver's side panel, and remove it. Under it should be the fuel pump/sender cap mounted to the gas tank. It will have two fuel lines coming from it. clamp off the fuel line on the left and go start the car.

Please come back and let me know if it does anything "odd".

I believe you are talking about the return line to the tank. It comes off the secondary fuel rail and returns to the tank.

What exactly are you looking for. You are asking people to do a bit of work for reasons you haven't stated other than "odd" results.

What were your "odd" results. I would imagine thatthe fuel pressure would stay high if not too high do to not having a way to relieve the system. But i would have to look into that more first. And you'll have to explain further before I go any further than the Factory Service manual.

4000(ish)rpm idle, if it runs at all...and very rough engine accelleration. that's the odd result. If this is the case then the results will be instant.

While removing the gas tank of the RX7 I gave up on because of a bug I discovered a fouled line. It's the reason I'm parting her out. I'll be very disapointed if the results I discribe happen.

4 thousand RPM idle? your joking rite?or was that a typo and you meant idle revved to 4k if possible.

I may get a chance to get to it tomorrow for you. If i don't get back to this thread PM me later on in the week like weds. or so if you don't here from me.

No...the car would not idle below 4K. It also wouldn't rev above like 4500...if that high. No typo.

A blocked return line will cause excessive fuel pressure and massively rich mixtures. It will not cause a high idle. To increase the idle speed you meed more air, not fuel. Sounds like a throttle jammed open.

I had come to the conclusion that there was a large air leak in the intake tract but I never could find anything. I can't imagine a vac leak causing that kind of result. But I went all over my engine bay looking for vac leaks and never foung anything...

Thanks for confirming what I had thought. I agree you had a air leak somewhere.

an air leak along with the fuel return clamped may yeild those results since you would be getting more air ain fuel. I'm not sure tho sounds wierd we used to clamp the return on my buddy's prelude at the track to keep it from running lean, this trick helped him achieve a 14.9 @92.90 in a 1990 Prelude Si not bad for a car that ran 17's stock

Why would you fool with the fuelpump access area? Just clamp off teh hose up at the engine! Duh... :doh:

Because that's where the line was fouled...over the fuel pump. I imagine it would be the same in the engine bay...but that't not where the line was messed up.

I had plenty of reasons to break down and finally part her out.
