Nasty Nasty Vibration!
 

well my car runs good now thanks to everyone help on getting it started thanks all who helped. got another problem than i still dont know what it is.

My 88 na gxl vibrates so much and really hard. as soon as i get above about 2000 rpms it starts to vibrate. and it does it on all gears. and when i am in neutral comming to a stop it does the same thing. does anyone have a clue why that happens. and this is my daily driver with 155k miles. runs really great and strong. thanks 'marcos'

Does it only do this while the car is in motion? If so I'd check the driveshaft u Joints and the diff mounts. if it does while the car is parked and you are just revving I'd check motor and tranny mounts.

I second the notion. If it doesn't do it at all when stopped through the whole RPM range, then i'd definately agree, something behind the transmission is bad.

it only does it after i go past about 2k rpm. never while idle'N or take off. its i could be driving for a while on a steady speed like at 20 or 25mph and its fine then i let off gas to slow down or or speed up and there we go again.

Sounds like engine/tranny mounts... Thats what mine did... Replaced both sets.... problem solved.

Mine did that because the bolts that hold on the stock fan were loose. Just a guess.

Definitely check and change the differential fluids and tranny fluids if you've not done that in a few years. But the vibration sounds like the drive shaft U-joints are bad. If the drive shaft is OEM it has nonreplaceable U-joints and the drive shaft must be replaced, good news is that the replacement shaft can be bought with replaceable U-joints. I replaced my drive shaft, 89 GTU, last fall and the symptoms were identical to what you described. Also good news is you can find a new drive shaft for around $250 and its an easy replacement. 4 bolts at the differential and slide it out. Mazdatrix is the most popular source for replacement "propeller shafts". The bad news is that I haven't yet found the car's Propeller, but I'm still looking.

Do a forum search on drive shaft and you'll find a lot of recommendations on how to do the replacement and based on when you experience the vibrations as to which end of the drive shaft is wornout, but no matter which U-joint is bad you still have to replace the entire drive shaft. +1 on the shaft,but this isn't necessarily true,i just recently read a writeup somewhere on how to replace u-joints,try a search on u-joint replacement,it's here somewhere:)

replacing the drive shaft is very easy. raise the rear of the car unbolt the Y pipe but you dont have to remove it, unbolt the shaft from the diff and slide it out of the tranny. Have a drain pan ready for all the trans fluid thats gonna come gushing out. Then get your new shaft slide it in, bolt everything back up, fill the tranny with fluid( I recomend synthetic gear oil) drop the car and go have fun! itll take you a couple of hours and its a good learning experence if youve never done it before. hope this helps,
