Narrow Range Throttle Sensor Trouble?
 

I got a check engine light for the Narrow Range Throttle Sensor. I have NO idea where it is and where to check it and all. Is it the same cable for the narrow and full range one, because in the FSM it looks like to check them its the same plug. How hard is it to replace these? I'll have my intake all apart anyways soon for the secondary injectors and emissions removal so will that make it all easy to get to? What kind of problems would cause the CEL? I'm getting SUPER hesitation and cant really pass 4k rpms, and I was told it was one of my secondary injectors being leaky by the guy who tuned my car and checked it out. I'm going to replace those, but i'm also concerned about the throttle sensor since it said it might also cause hesitation. Thanks for the help.

Can't give you a lot of details because I don't have a S5 (or a check engine light, for that matter... yay S4).

A faulty TPS *WILL* cause high RPM hesitations and is very likely responsible for your 4k hesitation.

Pretty much, you need to check the resistance with closed throttle (with the engine warmed up so the high idle cam has fully retracted), check the WOT resistance, and then sweep it through the range to make sure it changes values smoothly (and has no shorts or "blown open" spots).

If it's faulty, you can try cleaning it some with contact cleaner, but it's probably not going to help much. Get a replacement from someone in the classifieds.

Well it seems to say that it can cause a 4k hesitation, but what about just a 4k wall that its hitting and won't go above?

Fix the TPS first. See if the problem remains.

A leaking injector would have a hard time causing a wall at 4k. A non-functioning secondary injector or two would cause this, but a leaking one shouldn't affect high RPM operation significantly.

Step one is to check the TPS with a multimeter.

You mean you actually have to be told to go look in the FSM? :confused:

I did look in the FSM, lots of stuff regarding the plug but I have never dealt with the sensor so I didn't know which plug it was. I saw a picture of it though in that writeup and I know where it is now to check with a multimeter though.
