NA transmission strenght.

How much HP are the NA transmission's good for?

loudazzrx7 11-02-07 06:45 PM

about 100 because they are one of the worst transmissions ever made period!
Do a little work and put a Turbo II in.

I have never had a problem and I have never known any one to have NA transmission probs. I beat on mine a little with a turbo, and alot of guys have them hold up to fully modified NAs. If you arent going big, (turbo swap or whatever you will be fine. I have put two trannys in my VW and one in myIsuzu so I love me some RX7 tranny.

Mechanic 11-02-07 06:48 PM

ignorant remark.

ask aaroncake, he has a turbo 6pt with well over 300 hp on the na tranny.

Turbo II Rotor 11-02-07 06:54 PM

I blew up two n/a trannys in three months.

A freshly rebuilt trans should be good for a decent amount of power. An abused trans could break with 5hp, even if its newly rebuilt. The style of driving has more to do with it than power.

Wow. Yer dumb. If you have problems breaking NA trannies, maybe you can't drive worth shit? If you are turboing an NA... then yes... the transmission WILL need to be upgraded.. But for anything 250 and under with a decent driver (not you), the transmission should hold up fine.

You have to be joking,I'm dumb you ignorant ass I have rebuilt more of these pieces of shits than you could imagine.
Half of the damn things just get dumped and we put a cutout unit in because most fc owners are cheap and cant afford a rebuild.Since you fucking know it all whats the one thing that goes out in them that causes the problems to begin with.Let us all know?
If you can answer that question correctly then maybe you can look a little better.
Sure if your just driving around in a stock ass fc it should hold up for a while, but by no means is this a good tranny compared to the tII

It's impossible to put a number on the strength of the transmission. It depends on the torque, the gearing, the grip, the weight amongst others and most importantly your driving style has a big influence. Some racers go through several transmissions a season, others have theirs last many, many years running just as many miles. Powershift it and it'll die sooner, launch really hard and it'll die sooner, shift really fast and it'll die sooner. If you treat it with some sympathy it can handle plenty and last a long time, if you treat it badly you'll get very good at swapping in new ones.

Just because you've broken one doesn't make it a piece of crap, you could probably break just about any transmission. They're adaquate for the car stock and modified, but no stock car's transmission will indefinetely stand up to abuse I guarantee you, so does that make them all the worst pieces of crap ever?

LOL.... wow.. :) I don't know man.. you are clearly a god amongst men.. but I'll humor you anyways.

From my experience, its the 2nd and 5th gear syncro gears... Oh.. and the main input bearing whines on higher mileage trannys..

Neither of those things have much to do with the strength of the transmission though and more on the driver...

In comparison to some other transmissions in OTHER mazdas... the NA transmission is beefy as hell. :) Sure, the TII transmission is better... So what? thats not on trial here. The OP never asked about the TII transmission. If he's only shooting for 200hp, his NA transmission is absolutely fine. If he wants to push 300hp, its probably time to start thinking about the TII transmission.. but, why in the hell would somebody swap out drivetrain if they didn't need to? Just because its better? Stupid waste of time/resources if you ask me.

The ford 9" rear end is WAY stronger than what I have now.. but I'm not going to install it.... because I don't NEED to.

Mechanic 11-03-07 12:24 PM

... you mean its worth getting a dogbox just to be cool? :)

n/a transmissions are alright, nothing to boo about. its not designed to be drag raced in general or light to light with slicks.

the law of human driving attraction is must make it to the red light asap then.. they fuck their brakes, tires, tranny and clutch, and dont even know why it happened.
